Pairing to a Roger Select- hearing aids in some kind of loop?

I picked up a used Select (not an On model) and it pairs with my (KS10 and M-70s) but in both cases there’s a constant switching between Auto and Roger Direct programs. Both HAs are merrily chiming away with the connect /disconnect sound.

I’ve reset the Select but…no dice. I have a Pen 1.1 of similar vintage which works a-ok with both. Am I missing something or is the Select borked?

Did you actually reboot the Select by holding both the on/off switch and the connect switch together for 10 seconds or did you just turn the Select off and then on again.

Yeah, I referred to a supplier’s support video, got no improvement, tried again and again.

Then in a moment of frustration, I held all the buttons down (add expletives of choice). It then worked perfectly on both hearing aids

Going through several reboot cycles may have worked, but I’m hoping it was the harsh language.
