Amplifon hearing aid price discounts?

I must find a new hearing aid, sigh…somehow I lost the one I had and the backup aid I now use is quite old.

Company health insurance does not cover hearing aids. Vermont doesn’t require employee health insurance to cover hearing aids. HR said the dental/vision plan offers a discount program. Turns out the dental and vision are components of the same company.

Turns out the discount program is Amplifon.

Do any of you all know about this Amplifon?? (I only know this company recently ate Miracle-Ear and 90% of their vendors are M-E outlets.)

  1. Are the discounts any good??

  2. Is one cajoled or forced to buy Amplifon’s hearing aids??

  3. Are Amplifon a rebadge of some other brand?? – if so, what?? (I do see other brands listed.)

Yes these are just rebranded models, most common problem is they lock you into their system, so in most cases you can’t go to other clinics for service or adjustments, have you got a Costco you can go to?

Amplifon is the hearing aid program my insurance has available as well (though my insurance covers $2500 every 5 years for hearing aids). I ended up at a Livingston Hearing Aid Center, and the location I went to mainly does Starkey (not rebadged). However, they are “behind” any new versions. When I got mine 1.5 years ago, the Edge has just come out, but this location could not get them and I ended up with the Genesis model. I might have waited if it hadn’t been so close to the end of the year, and I’m on a high deductible plan that resets in January.

Amplifon is in the process of acquiring GN Hearing. It offers rebranded hearing aids from Oticon, Phonak and Resound in my market. They don’t offer the name-branded options in order to avoid price comparisons. They tend not to offer the latest technology when it comes to new product releases as manufacturers often cannot supply them at the price and volume that they want. They tend to get them 6 - 12 months later.
