I have a unique situation wherein my ears are grossly mismatched, and I have common infection/drainage issues that make not feasible. That leaves me in a situation where the left ear needs a super power, the right ear doesn’t. any aids for a reverse slope, mismatched hearing loss? Thanks
I have one Phonak Naida Link M paired with an Advanced Bionics System: HiRes Ultra 3D Cochlear Implant and Marvel processor. The Link M is a HA with a tube leading to an earmold. It takes sz.13 replaceable batteries. The Remote app is rather primitive, especially for showing battery charge. It shows only 100, 75 or 50% charge on the implant and only a warning that the HA battery is nearly depleted. I’ve heard the myPhonak app is better but it won’t work with the implant.
Hi Fred, they did at one point suggest a consult, but I’m too chicken. When did you get yours, have you ever had good hearing? I fear that it matched with my right ear would bother me/

See my . I have in the left ear and in the right. Nothing to worry, even with music. However you must use sound processor (external device) consistently, ideally >8-10h per day to get better and better results with rehabilitation.
My surgery @ Mayo Clinic in Phoenix was last Jan. with activation in Feb.
My hearing had declined some with age but got much worse 12 years ago during chemo for leukemia, which caused some nerve damage to ears and feet. Mayo Clinic fixed the leukemia with a stem cell transplant and I can live with the nerve damage. I used Costco KS5, KS7 and KS10 . Hearing got worse again 2 years ago, hence the implant.
Like Bimodal_user, I have in left & HA in right. Both help my hearing somewhat – the CI picks up higher pitches like bird calls including Scrub Jay squawks. But I get a lot of distortion too. The surgeon ordered a scan, which apparently found the electrode not in correct place. I have surgery scheduled late this month.
To train my hearing, I listen to NY Times articles “read by an automated voice” which are generally very clearly enunciated although not always natural sounding. For instance, quote marks are sometimes read “quote quote quote quote“ and dates as “one thousand, eight hundred, eighty five”. Real speech is often more challenging.
Streaming sounds much better than sound picked up by the microphones in my hearing instruments. Meetings via Zoom are better than live.
The Phonak SP chip noise is very quiet. I don’t think you’d have trouble putting it on your right ear if you want a matching set. However, if you want to match different devices (e.g. a with a BTE) Phonak is bad for that and I’d look at Oticon instead.
LOL To be fair I love it when they decide for me. I still have good speech scores, so I will wait for those to dip, but K will at least talk about it afterr trying
