Eon Sphere v ?

I am currently wearing Phonak Audeo Marvel hearing aids that I purchased in 2020. It's time I am sure you all agree for an upgrade!

Eon Sphere v Eon Bicros are the two models I am looking at currently and my audiologist has offered me the opportunity to trial both. But before I do I would be interested if anyone else has any experience with these models or if there's something else out there I should be considering?

Would I be better now considering the bicros option as the hearing in my right ear is so muffled I can't actually decipher words anymore if someone speaks directly into this ear. Or would the assistance in Eon Spheres compensate for the issues in my right ear?

Thanks to everyone who responded, I now understand the hearing in my good ear isn't suitable for a Bicros aid.

Cochlear Implants have also been suggested however I don't qualify on the NHS and going private is not an option sadly.

I am still planning on going ahead with a trial of the Eon Spheres, any recommendations for a second pair to trial for comparison please?

Sorry but you have lost me completely!

I was of the understanding that bicros transferred the sound from people speaking near your worst ear to the good ear. Is this not the case?

I currently wear 2 Audéo Marvels and if someone is sat to my right in a noisy place I can't understand what they are saying.

But that not make sense if you have useful hearing in poorer ear (hence my question about ). Modern hearing aids offers solutions like Speech in 360° in Phonak or 4D sensor with Oticon's.

Have you had -based fitting of your hearing aids? Which receiver power donyou have? What domes or diameter of vent in earmolds?

 

Not stimulating your poorer ear leads to a deterioration in the ability to hear by this ear because it is not trained.

That's unless you have not much useful hearing, which is measured by WRS in quiet test.

 

When did you have last thorough hearing evaluation? Like not only air+bone conduction tonal , but also tympanogram, WRS in quiet - that's bare minimum.

Thanks for replying, my current aids are Phonak Marvel Audéo M90 RT with custom shells as domes don't work for me.

My last was in June this year and I presume that a tympanogram was done as my audiologist checked both my unaided wears thoroughly.

I haven't had a for a number of years.

I take onboard what you are saying about not stimulating the worst ear. I was curious if there was a solution to not hearing words well in my right ear. This has been the case since I lost my hearing in that ear suddenly in 2005.

Hard to say, maybe that is not optimised properly, for example, too weak receiver power (you should have at least P, but right ear is eligible for even UP).

 

But if you have low , even the best hearing aid will not help, and then cochlear implant evaluation is highly recommended.

If you have relatively good WRS, perhaps consider newer HAs? At least Infinio Sphere 90 Ultra generation or newer Eon depending on your financial possibilities?

What @Bimodal_user is saying is that, based on the you shared , bilateral hearing aids should work for you.

Your left hearing is in the moderate range and your right ear is in the moderate severe range. You are not in the severe or profound hearing loss range (per your audiogram).
Cros is for people who have unilateral hearing (no usable hearing on one side). are not for your type of hearing loss. You can look at @Bimodal_user 's audiogram to see what I am talking about.

What you describe can be addressed with proper fitting and programming.

To make things clear: My comments are based on the audiogram you shared. If there are other hearing issues, my comments may not be applicable.

No vent, here is a photo of the RH earmold....RH earmold

I am currently looking to purchase new hearing aids and Eon Sphere look great. However as this is a long-term purchase I want to check out all the available options. Which is why I started this thread asking for advice about either Eon Sphere v Eon Bicros....

I don't currently have a great understanding of cros or bicros as I have never tried them so I have no idea what I need.

Any advice is appreciated 😊

Many thanks for your reply, I don't actually understand words in my right ear, just sounds. As I said in my opening post "I can't actually decipher words anymore if someone speaks directly into this ear."

My hearing loss happened in 2005 and was caused by Ménière's Disease.

I am weighing up the options available as I have had my current aids since February 2020. I want to ensure I get what I need to make situations where several people are talking at once enjoyable. I currently avoid these situations as I get completely overwhelmed and want to escape. 😊

So you have P receiver. Really, no vent in right hearing aid? That's good.

Before you buy any hearing aid for your poorer right ear, please get a thorough hearing assessment. It's because buying expensive for that ear might not be worth the cost.

That's because it may turns out that you need in that ear and spending money for that side will be unnecessary.

Definitely Sphere, even unilaterally, that's my experience.

Have you ruled out a cochlear implant? If I skimmed passed that, apologies. Don't go to a unless you've ruled out a .

That's depend of your necessities and susceptibility to occlusion effect, but that makes only a suggestion, not strong advice.

If you want to exceptional noise reduction like in restaurants, etc. and you're not susceptible much for occlusion effect, go with Eon Sphere 90/Infinio Sphere Ultra 90.

That better will be necessary especially when it turns out that poorer ear has very low contribution to speech understanding.

Another option is Oticon Reveal 1 it can provide more high frequency gain with more oper earpieces, it has decent noise reduction, but not as much as Eon Sphere/Infinio Sphere.

For unilateral fitting or +, the best will be Eon Sphere 90/Infinio Sphere Ultra 90.

Thanks again @Bimodal_user my audiologist has recommended the Audeo Eon Sphere E90-R aids with new earmolds. I have set aside enough money to buy these.

I have tried Phonak domes previously and didn't get on with them. Are the Oticon Reveal 1 really worth considering?

All depends on what diameter of vent do you have in present earmold for better ear. For better efficiency of antinoise capabilities, you can consider smaller diameter.

Not necessarily, if unilateral fitting, only for better ear. But if you have time and energy for testing, why not? However, this is associated with spending some money for Oticon earmold.

Looks good, but in case of unsatisfactory outcomes in restaurants you can consider to have it smaller along with proper high frequency amplification.

Will be P receiver in your better ear? Your better ear is even borderline to UP, which has even better high frequency amplification. I've chosen UP for me and it was good decisions (YMMV).

 

M receiver power will be probably too weak for you.

UP would be good, because of:

1) contrary to the Marvel/Paradise/Lumity SDS 5.0 receivers - Infinio/Eon SDS 6.0 UP has broader frequency response than P - in simple words - it can provide more gain and headroom especially in 5.5-8 kHz and even up to 10 kHz.

2) better high frequency gain - better hearing in noise, which is important evenbwith newest bell and whistles like Spheric program

3) more headroom to volume up if necessary

4) less prone to oversaturation

5) it can provide better understanding in noise due to having better possibilities with MPo. Look at the articles here:
