Out of the box the FMA 120 can transmit received audio as directly to Auracast enabled hearing aids such as ReSound, Jabra, Signia, Starkey, and Oticon (with 1.3.0 firmware).
But I have read that the MFA 120 firmware can be flashed to turn from being a transmitter into being a receiver that will capture Auracasts received from other devices or inputs and input that audio into ANY smartphone’s USB port. Once in the phone I think the phone should output that audio to whatever audio out it has such as it’s speakers or importantly to ANY Buetooth paired device (even if it’s classic, not LE audio). If so, this means non-Auracast enabled hearing aids should be able to receive an Auracast broadcast (at whatever minimum range or quality the FMA 120 or the phone can provide or the hearing aid can accept).
Has anyone tried/done this?
I do not have an FMA 120, nor Spheres ( yet) but I see the value of hearing aids being able to receive Auracasts if/when they become widely adopted in large venues. And even if the venue is not so Auracast equipped, then a microphone could be used together with another FMA 120 set as a transmitter to Auracast to the FMA 120 set as a receiver.
I have not seen if anyone has done this. I have not yet. I would prefer to stand on the shoulders of giants than reinvent the wheel. Any insights appreciated.
If this works it would be a game changer for me as the Spheres seem clearly the best hearing aids to get but they are not yet Auracast enabled. I am concerned on how fast Phonak is going to implement LE audio and Auracast.
