Hearing aid theory Rexton reach

I’m on day 18 or so with my first hearing aids. Still learning and trying new scenarios. Last night I was in an uncrowded restaurant. The music, from speakers (not a live band) was pretty loud, but there was not much other background noise. The music was being amplified, by my hearing aids, along with people’s voices. None of the settings reduced the sound of the music. Noise/ party, reverb, automatic, or speech boost. I tried Rexton assist but nothing made the Rextons recognize the music as something to suppress.
Is the a way to handle the loud music?

  1. I would have asked the server if they could lower the volume of the music.
  2. If they didn’t lower the volume of the music, I would have walk out of the restaurant.
  3. The Jabra 30 should have a better hearing-in noise setup. So you might think about returning the Rextons for the Jabra 30.
  4. Try to set with your back against the wall, that way you shouldn’t be picking any chatter from behind you.
  5. Try to avoid venues with high ceilings.

This was one of my first times trying out a noisy environment. I’m still at the point where I want to see what hearing aids can do. The restaurant did in-fact have high ceilings. I think the whole point of hearing aids is not avoiding loud places with high ceilings.
I am thinking the Rextons should be doing a Better job then they are right now, but It could be user error.
I hope to switch to the jabra’s next appointment.

I have Signia Pure Charge and Go 7AX hearing aids (truhearing branded). I use to fiddle with some of the programs but nothing seemed to help in the environment you describe. I have had some success by narrowing the direction (which removes the automatic setting). The noisier the environment the more I narrow the direction range. This requires me to turn my head and focus on the individual speaking but well worth the effort Is this available in the Rexton app? I plan on upgrading to the IX platform in January.

When in a noisy restaurant I use the direction to a narrow forward setting on my Rexton Reach when setting across from my wife, it turns off people and noise (music) from other directions

I have Rextons and I tune them myself. What oters are saying is correct turn the program to conversation in noise and turn away from the loud noise so your back is to the noise then turn the volumn down so you can hear the person in front of you. Its sometimes difficult to arrange your seating in these envioroments but it is suprising how much noise is blocked if you can get it behind you and how clear the conversation is from in front.
As someone else said if the noise is overwheelming thats unpleasent for everyone not just hearing aid wearers so they should turn the volume down.
