Looking for Recommendations for hearing aids

I am 66 years old have been living with Tinnitus for over 25 years and I know it is getting worse, along with my hearing.

I had a hearing test back in 2012 and the audiologist only recommendation was a pair that costed $9000 and he required every 3 months to come in the office for checking, cleaning and adjustment at a cost of $150 each visit.

I really do not want to spend 4to $5000 on prescription aids and be tied to an audiologist for making adjustments.

I have taken many online tests, and they all show increasing loss as frequency increases and at 7K and 8K levels I am getting border line severe loss category.

I am looking at a lot of brands of aids and seem to find complaints on all of them.

I have looked at, Jabra, Sennheiser, eargo, elehear, MDHearing, Lexie, Yeasound and Sony.

I seem to find issues reported with all of them.

Can someone please give me a recommendation of some advice.

I have been wearing aids for 20 years and I have had tinnitus for 50 years. Yes hearing aids are very expensive but well worth it. There isn’t a one size that fits all. You need a fresh hearing exam. I get yearly hearing exams. Depending on your hearing loss will depend what hearing aids is best for you and that is what your audiologist knows best.

As @cvkemp says, you want another audogram, go to Costco get it done and then do a trial, and see for yourself which you prefer, no one can really tell you which is the best as such, you be the judge on that.

Costco is a 2 hour drive for me, I do have several audiologists in my area, I just do not trust any of them after my last experience with one. That is why I was looking at aids

Could you post your audogram, this will help everyone give advice, but even if Costco is a 2 hour drive, it’ll be worth it for the savings alone.

The problem is that are designed only for mild to moderate hearing loss and don’t include features for tinnitus. Online tests aren’t very reliable either, since headsets vary so much in sound profiles—and it’s hard to accurately adjust the volume for the test.

Begin by scheduling a professional hearing test, which many providers offer at no cost.

IIf you’re set on getting an OTC, go for a trusted brand like Sony or Sennheiser. The HearingTracker website has plenty of reviews to check out. It’s also smart to buy from a retailer that offers free returns, just in case the aids don’t work for you.

Getting hearing aids is like getting glasses: you can pick up $20 readers at a pharmacy, but if you have myopia or astigmatism, they won’t do the trick. The same goes for hearing aids.

One reason you might hear complaints about OTCs is that people without mild to moderate hearing loss buy them and then gripe that they don’t work.

Do you know if the tinnitus function comes from the app or is built into the hearing aids? In other words, is it delivered via Bluetooth from the app, or is it an internal feature like the Widex Zen on the Moments?

From what I just read, it seems to stream from the app.

The folks from HearingTracker and Soundly seem to really like the Elehear Beyond Pro, but I haven’t met anyone who actually uses them.

I was looking at the Elehear Beyond Pro.

Turn off was the IP57 rating. I work on antique cars a lot getting dirty and I sweat a lot.

I was told to either NOT wear the aid when I am working like this OR make sure I purchase a IP68.

What good is buying a hearing aid if I cannot wear it.

I trialed the Sennheiser all day clear for a couple of weeks. I also have mild to moderate loss and they worked well for me, except for the hiss I had constantly. If I turned down the high frequencies it went almost all away, but I decided to give Costco a try instead.

Start with an updated . If your low frequencies are still on the mild end (26-40dB) try to avoid devices that fill up the ear (e.g. earbud-style with no venting) as you can feel plugged up this way. When people ask me about over-the-counter devices, my first inclination is Jabra, Sony, and Sennheiser as they are affiliated with prescription hearing aid manufacturers. However, I have not had many people come into the office with them, but I suppose that is kind of the point of .

With your hearing loss, you might consider Apple’s Airpod Pro 3. They are not powerful enough for me, but many people here love them.
