I have noticed that about every 3-4 months my microphones lose effectivness, even if I clean them with a brush and replace the Mic. filter. Jabra has always replaced by ’s, but there must be a better way. Thus, I have gone on a 2 pronged approach:
1 - I bought what is known as a Solder Sucker that produces a small short vacuum with a plunger release. They are cheap (Amazon) and I intend to use them carefully to try to remove grit from my Mics.
2 - I bought 2 cheap external electret mics/amps from Amazon (WWZMDiB MAX4466 Electret Microphone Sensor) and wired them into a belt sunglass case. They connect to an Avantree Voyager HA which pipes sound directly into my Jabra ES 500 via Bluetooth. That bypasses the mics in the hearing aids. My test setup works well, but I need to make it look more beautiful. That will be my backup if a Mic fails on a trip.
Meanwhile, has anyone got any real data on what causes these mics to clog? Is it dust or skin (that can be vacuumed), or is it some kind of coating that might need a solvent? How do manufacturers fix these? I dont belive its moisture, since overnight in a drying canister made no difference. Thanks!
More in a few weeks. Steve
