My Cochlear Nucleus 7 randomly stops getting sound out of nowhere, and removing the mic cover and cleaning it with wipes doesn’t solve it. It still connect to my iPhone via Bluetooth and had to resort using Live Listen though

It happening for a few days now. I removed the mic cover and still can’t hear anything even after cleaning my processor with wipes. I can hear me tapping on my Nucleus 7 processor’s mic though but that’s about it though, and since it’s connected to my iPhone SE 2020, I still hear YouTube and everything on it and even I have to resort w to Live Listen to listen to conversations and everything around me. The sound on mic constantly returns but only for a minute and then no sound again and the cycle repeats. It did make a noise when the sound did return though.

My slimline coil is swollen up with dead skin and body fluids buildup but I’m not sure if that’s even the case why I can’t hear since it isn’t a mic.

I had my Nucleus 7 for eight years now.

Streaming is less affected by the outside sounds from the N7. It’s adjustable in the Nucleus Smart app.

My first thought is a notification from your phone. Have you had any updated recently? I usually turn notifications off on all apps except one or two that really want.

Have you changed your microphone covers. Dirt gets in them that affects ambient sounds

Do you have a spare coil you could try?

Try uninstall the Nucleus SmartApp, turn off the Bluetooth, turn off the N7 and restart the phone.

Then reinstall the Nucleus SmartApp and pair it with N7.

The advices above are also very good, it’s fundamental basics.

What magnet strength you have? Do you have pressure sores?

Unfortunately no. I had the current coil since 2023.

I have no idea what’s the magnet strength. I don’t have pressure sores. I do think the issue stems from the implant itself but I’m not super sure.

I’m confused what that has to do with my issue. I don’t think the Nucleus app fixes the issue and no, it’s not a notification thing.

Coil wires tend to get weak after 2-3 years according to my audiologist. Medicare paid for new coils based on audiologist recommendations. Static and broken sound would be a good indicator of a bad coil.

If you look at the magnet the screws into the coil there is a stamped number on the part that lays against your head. Too strong of a magnet will make that spot sore or even get a bad red rash.

I started with the #5 magnets and ended up with #3 magnets as the surgery location swelling went down over a two year period. Weight gain and loss can affect skin thickness that can also affect which magnet is most comfortable.

There’s only a few things that can go wrong with the N7. Mic covers- make sure it’s clean and dry. Coil- swollen, broken wires, replace the coil. NS app- delete and reinstall. NS app will retain you settings

If your coil is out of its normal shape get a new one and put it on. They generally only last for around 2 years then need replacing, especially if it’s not in the “as new” shape. It’s possible your magnet isn’t connecting properly which is causing your problems.
