I have been using the for 20 years, always great service and friendly staff. And staff that I can talk bluntly and honestly with. I cannot say that about the private sector doctors.

I agree.
I am in my 80’s, covered by Medicare, and I believe the main difference is that the doctors at the are not under the same pressure to get a patient in and out rapidly, and are able to spend more time helping me than entering data into a computer.

I am 77 and i find that I am treated like a person abd not a number by the . And the VA physicians listen to me. I seem to be a second thought by the medicare physicians because i am not on any prescription drugs and I have not been hospitalized for anything. My most serious illness has been a mild flu. It seems private sector doctors want to prescribe prescription drugs and extra procedures and scans.

Care to expand?
There are regulations about a lot of things. They can’t update their software when new versions come out. Seems to be many months behind. The six month contract cycle. I’m not sure why they didn’t have loaners for when my aids have to be sent in, but they haven’t until this last time. They were more than six years old, though, and she had no matched pairs to offer. She was clearly frustrated. Most of our audiologists come from a major clinic in the city and they had different rules.

@WhiteHat while they don’t have loaners, I have backup aids. Due to my hearing loss, I jave my primary and backup set of aids. Both sets are kept up dated with firmware and adjustments.

I complained a bit about not having backups. “At least you’ll have backups after you get your new ones.” Slim consolation.

They get away with it because your loss isn’t a severe loss. My hearing loss also rates a 50% disability rating.
