PROBLEM STATEMENT
Occasionally one of my hearing aids will go silent or be silent when connecting to an audio stream.
This happens in two distinctly different scenarios.
Good news — I do have a brute force solution ![]()
.
BACKGROUND INFO
I have the Soundgear AMP 312 Custom mold hearing aids from Costco. They are the co-branded version of Starkey EDGE 24.
I connect the to audio streams from a variety of devices in the house and while ![]()
- iPhones (2)
- iPads (3)
- Avantree Audikast 4 for TV
- Avantree C82 Aura for USB-C on iPhone 15
.
SCENARIO #1
As one would expect, confusion between devices and the HAs happen throughout the day.
As an example, I am using the Kitchen iPad. But other Devices in different rooms fiercely hold onto their connection with the HAs.
The sure fire solution has been to actively disable Bluetooth on the other Apple devices.
Then magically the silent hearing aid starts piping the audio stream to my ear.
Which involves a bit of exercise and playing Finders Keepers with the mobile Apple devices throughout the house. ![]()

SCENARIO #2
Occasionally this also happens when walking the dog ![]()
That’s a different scenario because I only have the iPhone 15 with Avantree C82 Aura on it.
When the iPhone automatically switches the stream from the Aura to the MFI protocol, occasionally one of the hearing aids go silent.
The only surefire fix is to restart the silent hearing aid by removing the 312 battery for a moment.
Just sharing for those who might be experiencing either of those situations.
