I’ve got the same problem. I have two Oticon Engage aids, one PP(105) in my deafer ear the other not PP but (85). Recently they have started spontaneously switching themselves off then a few seconds later they often ping back into life. Repeatedly !!
In my case the right ear always pings first but I don’t know if this is significant. I think moisture getting into the aid may be the culprit. I have silica packets I store with my aids overnight and these are in now the microwave getting reactivated so hope this may help. Have any other solutions been offered ??
I realize this is an old thread however I have new Oticon Intents 1 (purchased October 2025) with custom molds and 105db speaker. I have experienced the the shut down too. It occurs with a loud noise! I cannot reboot the hearing aid. The aid will not charge and requires a trip to the audiologist clinic. My aids are under warranty so Oticon is just replacing them and the audiologist re-programs to my current fitting. To clarify– it is usually one aid that will shut down during loud noise. However, I have had the right aid shut down one month–then the next month it could the other aid. It appears the aid closest to the sound source shuts down.
Did you ever resolve your issue with Oticon? Or if anyone else has had this experience please share.
The issue was never resolved for me. I ended up moving to a different brand when I needed a change.
I am bummed that they are still causing issues as they were the best sounding aids I have had. The Phonak I have now suck in most ways except for their USB connectivity.
Thank you so much for responding to my issue and I am sorry there was not a good outcome.
I have had such great success with all Oticon hearing aids for 25 + years until now. I have never had an issue even remotely like this. Since, these are new hearing aids and I am still under warranty— I am going to keep battling Oticon and the until my 3 years warranty is up.
I don’t have Intents but I have had random restarts with OPN 1, OPN S1, More 1 and Real 1. Things usually got better with firmware updates but not always so various instruments were also replaced. In early 2025 I was having restart issues with my Real 1 aids, mostly on one side. I went in to my audiologist and they replaced the rechargeable batteries in both aids and updated the firmware to the current version. I haven’t had a random restart in the last 9 months. I don’t know if it was a firmware or battery issue that was the cause but so far, so good.
My issue was not a restart, it was basically like some loud sharp sound overloaded the speaker (receiver) and popped a circuit breaker. The problem was that it would reset randomly after some period of time. Rebooting the aid wouldn’t solve it. Super annoying.
Thank you for taking time to respond and share your Oticon experience. Your post was very helpful and may also lead me down another rabbit hole in attempts to solve my issue. You stated that changing out the rechargeable or firmware update although you are not sure what solved the issue.
In my case, I don’t think a battery replacement will solve the issue because my keeps swapping out for a brand new aid. 4 brand new aids and counting so far since October 2025 and the issue continues with each aid that was swapped.
However, the firmware could be an issue as I obtained my Intent hearing aids in Oct. 2025. On the day of my fitting my AuD downloaded the updated firmware 1.3 for the Intents. I was her first patient to receive the the lastest firmware. I know this because I had to wait in her office for her computer to receive the download so that she could upload the firmware to my hearing aids.
Perhaps, there is an unknown bug or glitch in this latest software and because it is so brand new the vast majority of Oticon Intent users have not updated so therefore with a small sampling of users that may have updated haven’t not reach Oticon “ears” yet?
Apple, Microsoft and others issue updates all the time… only to follow with an additional update as because of a report bug, glitch or flaw.
Any software engineers or ’ers want to weigh in?!!
Is it possible that the latest firmware has an issue and so far I am “one” reporting on this issue and not enough folks have seen their audiologist for the update therefore Oticon hasn’t recognized an issue?
