I started my trial with More 1 today. I have been wearing Oticon Opn 1 since Summer of 2016. For the past few weeks I have been on an extended trial with Phonak Paradise while I waited for the More to arrive. Before the Paradise I had a short trial with the current Widex. I didn’t like the sound of the Widex.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the Phonak. The Phonak Audeo Q90 I had before the Opn 1 sounded kind of tinny to me. The Opn 1 sounded richer and more natural than the Q90. The Paradise seems to have remedied that tinny sound problem. I’d say they sounded just a bit better than the Opn 1.
My audi said he programmed the More with settings “similar” to what I had had on the Opn. I guess the fitting Software has changed so that he could not just import my settings from the Opn. My audi said the More had more adjustment bands than the Opn so he was able to give me more boost in the higher frequencies.
On first impression in the audi’s office I thought the More sounded sharper than the Paradise. It seemed to have more treble or high-end than the Paradise or the Opn. Subjectively I thought the More sounded louder than the Opn or the Paradise on the default volume setting on the default program. I did seem to find that I could listen to and understand what my audi was saying with less effort than with the Opn or the Paradise.
I had a very short face-to-face (masked) conversation with a grocery clerk. With the Opn in that situation I would often boost up the volume a couple of clicks to make sure I could hear everything being said. I didn’t feel the need to do that with the More.
I came home and listened to Netflix trying all three . The More seemed to feel a little less “comfortable” than the other two. I had a little of that feeling a first-time HA wearer has where sounds are overwhelming. I felt like if someone were to drop a pan near me it would sound a bit like an explosion. This feeling was not nearly as pronounced as when I actually WAS a first-time HA wearer, but it reminded me of that.
Listening to the same conversation on Netflix repeatedly while changing HAs, I felt like maybe I understood a couple of words with the More that I didn’t understand with the others.
My music program with the feedback control almost off is pretty much unusable due to feedback. I should have tested that program in the audi’s office.
Overall I feel that, surprisingly, I am going to have to take a little time for my brain to get used to the More. I thought it would be a very seamless transition. I do think that, after a couple of programming tweaks and my brain adjusting to them, the More will be a significant improvement over the Opn 1, and better than the Paradise. Hope this helps someone.
