Phonak infinio sphere I90 microphone stopped working

Earlier this week the microphone on my right suddenly stopped working. But just before it stopped it had made a few radio wave like noises for about a minute or two and then gone. The Bluetooth function works fine to listen to music and listen to tv through the tv connector. I’ve an appointment with my audiologist next week. She thinks it may be the receiver. I wonder about that though as and speaker still working fine. Anyone care to chime in with your thoughts? Either way I will let you know what the outcome is once its been examined.

Actually yes. The was replaced that morning. If it were the filter, how could the speaker function whereby I can still hear music and other audio via Bluetooth functiona?

I’m going to put a £1 on sweat or wax contamination at the mic port. Unlikely to have both mics fail this early on. There should be a cleaning brush in your case.

I think sweat or moisture from rain is the culprit as well.

When I went canoeing with my Aids in, I got that hissing like a radio when one of my Aids got wet by a lot of splashing.

Did you use an electronic dryer/dehumidifier, an airtight container with dessicant packs/disc, the last-ditch bag of rice, or just let them dry in room air? In case I get dripped on in the next bout of rain (not likely in this weather, though I’m in Oregon), I’d like to know what worked. :grinning:

Gotcha. So I went ahead and used the wire portion of the tool on those holes and learned that I could push the wire through to the other side. Nothing came through, like wax or debris. So it must be sweat damage. I had done a spinning workout that morning followed by a walk. It wasn’t until afternoon when the mic failed. Maybe the internals are failed. How did your issue get resolved?

I had a clogged microphone on my Phonak Paradise. I took it apart and cleaned the rubber next to the microphone, just wiped it and now it works fine. That rubber was wet, full of moisture.

You probably flooded the goretex over the mic in your spin class and it took a while to get fully saturated. You might be able to dry it out. It sounds daft, but a quick squirt of deionised water through the mic port before will carry out any contamination from the sweat.

You can get silica gel drying packs and gently warming dryers to dry them out.

I do have some silica gel packs from my previous Phonak Marvels. They fit into a circular compartment in the Marvel charger unit. Unfortunately it is too big to fit anywhere inside of the Sphere charging compartment. So I tried placing it in a separate container with the and left it overnight. But no change. I’ll just have to wait until my audiology appointment on Wednesday morning to see what can be done. If receiver, then just replace. But I moisture, then repair or replace the HA. And I will ask for a proper dehumidifier device as I will frequently get sweaty during workouts.

My audiologist examined the R aid which had the faulty mic. Replaced the receiver but no change. She also examined the L aid which was working but determined it was not producing much amplification either. So she is sending them both off for repair. Should get them back in 3 weeks. Meanwhile I have my 4 yr old Phonak Marvel M90 right as my backup. I do not have an M90 left hearing aid. She is looking into getting me one if available.

Good they are sorting them, you might get a report if the aids were flooded.

Historically we have had issues with the Audeo/Moxi cases getting flooded via the top/front mic port; they’d practically all fail after a few years. Older Phonak models used to have a removable goretex strip filter over the mics - which made the change easy to handle in house.

When they integrated the filter under the mic cover it didn’t remove the sweat/capilliary issue, just put it inside the aid.

So the audiologist ordered the Dry & Store Global II for me to use with my ’s. But from doing some reading on the Dry & Store website, they mention that the Global II unit may be too much heat for some rechargeable HAs, and they in turn recommend going with the DryBoost UV model. Not sure the VA carries the DryBoost UV model. Anyone know if I would be subjecting my Sphere I90’s with too much heat?

Have you given that info to your audiologist, e.g. by e-mail?
