Yeah well the thing is most people are HAPPY with them, only a small group that are complaining, but I don’t know why anyone would stick with a brand their not happy with, I dump brands straight away that don’t suit my lifestyle, so never have to try are get anyone else ( like a manufacturer)to change things so that I’m happy with them, just walk away, problem gone and sleep easy.
If the product was non functioning, or totally underperforming, well then it would have been rejected during my trial. Right?
The reason to be upset as I am, is not only that I have invested money, but I have invested time, learning, becoming practiced with them, and invested also emotionally in what seemed to be a good option. The brand wants us to buy into their boasts. It is our job to help them to measure up in the little ways they make us suffer.
Everything has something that can be improved. You don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. You find ways of updating the bathwater. Or in this case the firmware and software. Doable. Once we know the water needs changing.
Mine (Audeo p90-r) go into speech in loud noise automatically when noise levels exceed a threshold my audiologist set. I also have a s-i-l program to go into manually when it won’t settle on s-i-n vs s-i-l. That drives me nuts.
I can’t imagine sphere i90’s not going into s-i-l (and thus sphere) when the noise threshold is exceeded unless they were programmed that way specifically.
Frankly I feel like I was pushed down a rabbbit hole. On bad days I feel programmable hearing aids using auto sense 4 are a bad deal
I have a fixed program as default/startup, with Autosense as a switchable option. I tend to only use Autosense when I’m a passenger in a car. At all other times, I manually switch between 3 programmes. I don’t switch with the app, I just scroll through with long presses. This works well for me.
yesterday I messed up. Phonak Audeo Paradise P90 rechargeables were in “Speech in Loud Noise” all day.
I have new hearing aids and charger because Phonak replaced them just at end of warranty. Hurray for Phonak! Truly.
Darn hearing aids’ batteries died by 6:00 pm. I’d worn them only 10 hours. Charged them. Took a while
My average: 15 hours of use every day, 7 days a week.
That darn program ate up juice and I was deaf until I charged them.
My dispensing audi got me to sign a form saying he needed it to negotiate with Workman’s Compensation. I’d only had the hearing aids he replaced for 2 years. He worked a miracle. He got me new hearing aids! He got my top-of-line hearing aids1 WC doesn’t do that.
He called me back in and said, “here you go.” They were rechargargeable; I need replacement batties.
The good news is that I have brand new batteries that last longer.
PeterH, way back I did that too. I had “Music” as my start up program
Now…as of a week ago, my hearing aids are setup much better with a better fit program, and Slimtip inserts. I’m hearing so much better. I’m really happy!
I’ll get used to the SlimTip or whatever they are inserts. I’ll figure it out. Or i’ll stop using the . Do without.
That is a good question…my hearing loss is very similar to yours..ie dead on the high side. Thinking about your question…yes, it is a bit like the conversation is being streamed..in that the Sphere mode is very selective. Think of it as like using an old fashioned hearing horn pointed at the speaker. Its pretty impressive, and to me, very noticiable, ie it gets my attention, which further helps hear the voice. Phonak is on the right track with this technology. I look forward to the next big revision. Maybe eventually I can hear conversations better than someone with “normal” hearing..
My issue with the i90 Spheres is that they pick too much conversation and background noise! I love it when I’m outdoors, and feel like I can hear every bird from a mile away (whereas my first hint of hearing loss was inability to hear birds and crickets). But I’m also finding that when background noise is intermittent, not continuous, the Spheres pick them up and magnify them. I was in a restaurant recently in the late afternoon. My friend and I were the only ones there, save for an employee sweeping crumbs on the floor into a metal pan on a pole. Each time the broom hit the metal pan, I heard an extremely loud clanging sound. I asked my friend if she heard it, and she didn’t notice it at all.
Also, I have parrots that constantly chatter when I am on a phone call (which streams from my iPhone into my via Bluetooth). The callers always complain about the parrots, the sounds of which are magnified by the receivers in my earmolds. I have to switch to speaker mode on the phone, which normalizes the sound, or leave the room.
If you change your phone call input from your hearing aids to the mobile device microphone it will make your callers happy. You can still have their voice go into your hearing aids. (This applies to iPhone.)
