I’m still going to post my audio graph, but I want to jump into this music discussion. When I purchased my M90’s I emphasized to the Audi that I want to know if the larger molds improved the quality of the sound. I believe I was a little misunderstood, based on her response, and I ended up agreeing to the slim tips. First of all, It wasn’t perfect, but I was blown away at the difference from my old Resounds, which I used for decades (a couple pairs). I’m not sure if either of you sing, but I do and this was exceptionally important to me, along with my guitar(s) and music in general. The slim tips hurt my inner ear at least a few times when I inserted them (including the first time!) and I couldn’t escape wondering if the c shells would have more quality to them than the slim tips, so I tried the c shells. I’d like to begin by stating that I’ve been really perplexed, to put it nicely, by how hearing aids that cost thousands can’t do what my Bose (and the like) ear buds do, produce rich, quality sound, all while improving speech and comprehension. First, I had an epiphany when I performed with the slim tips…OMG!! I could hear my voice like never before, and it felt powerful! I was able to back off from singing so hard and I have been singing better than ever, which I’ve always struggled with in the past. I also wasn’t experiencing the compression kicking in and changing the sound for periods of time in the middle of performing, and waiting for the compression to ease back to “normal“. While in the Music setting, they were consistent and detailed…I found the holy grail!!
Enter the c shells…
When my Audi switched out the slim tip with the c shell molds, I knew instantly that my question about them providing better quality sound had been answered! Although we had trouble with my own voice sounding WAY too bassy, like my head was in a fishbowl (my initial inquiry here, back to that later), I went home and listened to my iTunes, I was almost crying tears of joy! They’re still not as rich as my Bose buds, but I also came to realize that, at this stage in my life and music, I don’t really need big and loud, which I can get from my amps anyway, just good quality natural sound, and the c shells were clearly better, for me.
The problem for me though, is the fishbowl on my head. That’s what I’d like to focus on in this thread, and I’ve already gotten some good info, and look forward to getting more! Once my head is free from the bowl, I look forward to reading more tips and tricks to improve the different aspects of the performance sound, program settings, eq, etc. Ultimately, getting back to that musical holy grail, with the c shells, and tweaking them to near perfection. Then perhaps I can just focus on making beautiful music!
