Phonak Sphere - How To Change Receivers

I have custom moulds on my Sphere aids. I bought a spare pair of receivers and wires which I ordered with the new aids in case one fails.

Howeve, I cannot see how to change them. On my Lumity aids there was a small pin you pushed partly out to release the plug but the sphere aid lacks that pin near the plug. I can see a hole almost on the underside near the end of the aid’s body but it is 6mm away from the end.

Hello, to change the receiver you just have to pull the cable and put the new one will press

Be very careful when you do this. I like to take a small tool and pry the receiver wire out a little before pulling on the wire. I broke three receiver wires just pulling like the video shows.

Thank you for your replies. chatGTP told me that you need a special tool to remove the plug. I imagine that Phonak decided you would only remove the receiver lead if it had stopped working and damaging the wire by yanking on it was not a problem - it would be replaced by a new one anyway..

Be careful doing this. The first time I tried to do it, the wire snapped off at the base, leaving the base stuck in with no easy way to remove it. I eventually pried it loose with a pin. I much prefer the old system.

Do you have SlimTips or cShells (there’s printing on them)? If that’s the case, unfortunately changing the receiver at home isn’t an option. We’ll need to send the earmold to the manufacturer.

I’ve swapped probably a half dozen times. I hold the body in left hand fingers, with the wire following the curve across my rt thumb, and use the leverage to lift the connector out. No issues so far. The pin method was less stressful, but no tool needed. Although I do have the official pin and the receiver tool.

My heart still beats a bit faster each time I’m doing it….

I’ve had a few broken ones over the years, obviously it’s not just the std receiver as such that you use for domes, it’s basically disassembled in the shell with the wire’s soldered, so it’s not like they just mold around the receiver or anything like that.

Yes, I did. That’s irreversible unless you send cShell to the manufacturer. As @tenkan said, that receivers are a bit different than that not embedded. Perhaps I’ll provide some photos later.

That is correct, technically you pinch the wire between your thumb and index finger, then roll the knuckle of that finger inside the wire bend with the outside of the knuckle making contact with the upper inner portion of the aid. Pulling them straight out will usually work too.

When I changed the receivers in my Phonak Sphere i90s, I followed the instructions in the Phonak videos. Instead of coming out, it felt like I was stretching the wire instead.

I took a glasses-cleaning cloth, wrapped it over my index finger, grabbed the receiver wire right behind the connector, and pulled it straight out. No problem. No stretching. No hard pulling.
