Hearing - Speech Scores

Here’s what I have. I am going to have to connect with the and see what they say. In the meantime I am going back to Costco for the next eval and see what they can do. I will also ask her about most everything that’s been relayed to me here in this thread, which is quite overwhelming and appreciated

so this brings up another question. Was the 90 uncomfortable? Because you would score 0% as there isn’t any frequencies for speech even reached. If it was not uncomfortable it may be their audiometer limit. But not sufficient to get a true score. If it wasn’t uncomfortable it should have been at 100 to 105 to test speech with some masking of right ear.

YES. Mostly my left ear. It felt like heavy vibrations and it actually hurt a bit! I mentioned that to the tester. It was quite annoying.

Wow! Thanks jinxed. I’ve been meaning to get back to this thread and report back. But this is great news. I have a follow up appointment in 2 days and will ask about these newer models. I am still in the trial period so maybe I can swap them out

Anyway, I have been using the Pro 30s and have pretty much stopped using the one in my left (really bad) ear. It really doesn’t seem to do anything at all.

I was still having issues with the right ear and she suggested I do the ear mold thing so I did. It actually made it better! I mean, there’s no fidelity, but I can hear better since getting the mold. There are times when it’s still hard to hear, like through a ‘speaker’ type deal at a drive through or sometimes the speaker phone, but it definitely helps. It’s also more comfortable.

Now that you’ve posted the above two items, I am looking forward to asking about them on Thursday. It will be interesting to hear what she says about them.

I was already in the system… But when I 1st thought about getting , I called and got an appointment the next day for testing.. Less than 2 weeks later the VA set them up , and I was out the door hearing again.. Can’t say enough about the VA experience.. About 2 weeks from thinking about it, to wearing them.. Great HAs too… Otican Intent 1…

Jon, FYI… my Costco audi set up my aids with 2 All Around programs initially. She did this based on the settings of my older Jabra aids. In the 1st All Around program she set them using . On the 2nd All Around program, she set them using Jabra’s proprietary fitting formula (+, if I remember correctly?). I used both for the next 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks I had her remove the REM All Around program because I could hear so much better with the Audiogram+ settings. Speech comprehension was greatly improved although they were kinda “crisp” sounding, i quickly got used to it and now use that fitting formula with great success. Maybe ask them to try that fitting formula before you make any further decisions.

Interestingly, the centre in Quebec has stopped waiting for healing. I just saw them present a study showing no difference in outcomes (hearing or medical) for patients activated within 24 hours, but greater patient satisfaction. I don’t think the work has quite been published yet. But if you want to try to convince them to turn it on sooner you could suggest they reach out to Laval.

Yes - for major centers like Vanderbilt, if you come from a far distance, they will do testing and surgery one day and activation next so you can get it all done with one visit. Magnet size mayI change as swelling goes down. I asked for that, but a five hour drive was not considered far enough away. I think this well become more commonplace.
