Had my appointment today at Costco for testing and recommendations for new aids. I felt they did a pretty good hearing test, better than what Kaiser does, but slightly less than my old audi did. The only difference being my old audi did a lengthy WR test where Kaiser and Costco only do maybe a dozen words or so per ear. Costco audi is a with 10 years experience and seemed very knowledgeable. I felt comfortable with her. After testing, her first recommendation for my loss was the Jabra, which surprised me. I was ready to go , but would prefer not to. With the power receivers I still would have a lot of gain available for future adjustments. I asked about the KS10 with 100 or 105 receivers and she said she wouldn’t recommend them for my loss and that the Jabra Pro’s would be the only type she would advise. Otherwise her next recommendation was the Brio BTE. She let me trial the Jabra’s in the store and I really liked them right away. She tweaked them a little from my feedback and balanced them out and walking around the store was very comfortable in such a loud environment. I talked to another guy waiting for his aids to be cleaned and was able to understand words very well with all the background noise. The audi being female, I also could hear her well even masked and with the noise. After 5 minutes I didn’t want to take them off (putting mine back in was a bummer).
Needless to say, I pulled the trigger and placed my order for the rechargeable ones, $1899 out the door. Using double power domes (what I use currently in my old aids), I had zero feedback, even when cupping my hand over my ears, so we decided to wait on custom molds until I am fully fitted using and see how it goes. They advised about 5-7 days until they will be ready for pickup. Will update once I get them get them. Have been lurking here for months and can’t thank you all enough (and this site) for the invaluable information and replies.
