Question re. Fitting Algorithms

I thought of the fitting algorithms ( 3.0 or ) as algorthms that would take the information available in the and calculate gain levels to be applied and those settings would remain in place. However I saw reference to dynamic compression settings in APD 3.0. Does that mean that APD 3,0 sets the various gain levels but has the ability to change those levels on the fly?

I think that dynamic compression is referring more to variable speed of compression (fast/slow) rather than changes in the G50/65/80 input levels. This refers to how the compressor responds to sudden changes in the loudness of the sound environment (such as with loud transients) rather than overall changes in G50/65/80 across time. There are advantages and pitfalls to slow and faster compression depending on the situation. Variable speed compression allows users to get the benefits of both according to the situation. Other manufacturers also use variable speed compression.

Independent prescription formulae (e.g. NAL/) don’t specify compression speed in their calculations, so the manufacturers can implement whatever solution they prefer in this regard.
