I have an undergraduate Honors student here at CMU, Isaac Cole, who is working on a research study investigating the accessibility and accommodations at sit-down/full-service restaurants as perceived by adults who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing, as well as front-of house staff (e.g., servers, hosts/hostesses, bartenders, and managers).
In case you are wondering why Isaac is doing this (not just for his Honors College requirement)--he noticed that there is a lot of ancedotal data about the challenges in restaurants and most of the published research on this specific topic has been mostly newspaper articles, and not scholarly research in peer-reviewed academic journals. In case you are wondering who I am and why I care, I am am an Audiology Professor who was born profoundly deaf and am a cochlear implant and hearing aid user.
