Roger On- worth the price?

I’m using the Phonak Sphere Audio 190. For the most part, I think they’re the best I have ever used (30 year wearer!). I declined the Roger On when offered by my audiologist because of the hefty price ($1800) but am reconsidering especially for restaurants and yoga. Does anyone have experience with the Roger on? Is it worth it?

Do you have an option to trial it? It can be situationally very powerful, but whether this is worth it to you kind of depends on how often you are in situations where it is good.

Only downside to the Roger is sometimes I ask someone to wear the Mic and they say no as they are unsure.

Have you hit on a good script that seems to be the easiest thing to say to explain it and get them to wear it?

I use my Roger for a soft spoken friend, as a table mic, for speakers at meetings classes, events, for tour guides, at cocktail parties where I hold the mic in my hand down by my side pointed at the desired speaker. For events and meetings I often just put the mic on the table close to the speaker. The Roger is so powerful it doesn’t have to be on the speaker ( if on the speaker it is easier to use the lanyard than the clip)

I have never had a speaker at an event or a friend say they no to wearing my Roger or my previous Oticon ConnecClip. just tell tell them it’s a lapel mic that goes directly to my ears/hearing aids so I can hear them clearly.

I use the Roger On with Phonak Lumity 90s. It depends on your hearing loss as to whether it will consistently help you. I exercise twice/week with a personal trainer in a large gym, and the trainer has to wear the Roger On. My experience is that if the background noise is 75db and above, (I use the mobile app DecibelX to measure background) it’s tough for the Roger On to pick up conversation. I would love to try the Spere Infinio to see if they reduce my dependency on the Roger On.

I used a clip previously with my Widex but it wasn’t great (but no one ever refused to wear it!) And the Roger is so pricey so I am interested in knowing what users thought about it,

I love mine. I haven’t resorted to it in restaurants yet since I received the spheres. I can see friends seated far enough away the spherical mode doesn’t pull them in. Roger may help, may not. I’ve seen it go both ways. When Roger is on her game she’s amazing.

Sometimes nobody can hear, really. I was at a wedding reception a while back where the music still played while announcing things, and it was all muddy. I said to let me know if there’s anything I need to know or do, and I was told nobody else could hear either. It was an early evening for us in the older crowd. The alcohol fuel3d didn’t seem to care.

I only have a Phonak Audeo P90, but I have found the Roger on In to be LIFE CHANGING. In a lot of settings, the Roger has made a huge difference. In noisy restaurants, even at a round table of 10 people, it lets me hear conversations anywhere on the table. In quieter settings, I use it to hear my partner across the table. I am regularly in a courtroom, and the Roger allows me to sit anywhere in the courtroom and hear everything that goes on. I teach a high school class, and the Roger allows me to hear questions from the students (either in table mode, or sometimes when the student holds the mike in presenter or pointing mode). When I meet with customer representatives at a business, I can hear what they’re saying across the counter or desk. When I recently toured in Japan, the tour guide wore the Roger on the lanyard, and I could hear him speak even if I was 10-12 feet behind him. When driving some friends sitting in the back seat, I could hear them clearly. It was made my life much better in so many ways. I can’t recommend it more strongly. I’ll be a Phonak customer for life if that’s the only way to keep using the Roger.

I have the original Roger On and the V2 version. I got both of them from the at no cost. They are nice and work well as table mics, but if I had to pay $1800 for one I would pass. I’m waiting for a pair of Phonak Sphere I90s to be delivered and I believe the audiologist said she is ordering me a new V3 of the Roger On to go with them.

It has only been a little more than a week, but I haven’t turned on my brand new v3 except to test it and audio stream. I know how I’d vote with my dollars today if I was digging out the wallet. Still a great tool for hearing some auditorium situation speakers. But that is pretty rare for me. Lousy acoustics sometimes still mess it up.

I have used it outdoors for trying to hear a small group, but traffic noise overwhelms it (The original and the V2, I don’t have the V3 yet).

Did either of your ’s mention why the would furnish a new V3 Roger On when you already had a V2 Roger On while also receiving new I-90R Infinio Spheres?

My VA AuD has ordered I-90R Infinio Spheres for me also, but didn’t suggest an updated Roger On…just curious if the Sphere might use the Roger On in a different way.

Hate to say it but it sounds to me like the is just wasting money. Only difference between V2 and V3 is that the coating on the V3 is better so it won’t scratch as easy. The V3 has unlimited licenses, but the V2 also has several but you need to download free software to get them.

I asked for a v3 Roger on. She said, “of course, as long as it is on the contract.” It was already connected to my aids when I got it all. They come with the dock now, they didn’t when I got my v1. I don’t have a v2.
