Singing in a choir with hearing impairment

I have been wearing new hearing aids that seem to block my ears ,as i have moulded earpieces im I’m finding it challenging to be in a choir aI’m really not sure of what sound I’m producing,also am overwhelmed by the other voices Any advice I have aid and one out sometimes .I currently have Phonak aids from the NHS in the UK

Hi Beam, Very interested to read your post. I am also in the UK and have given up singing with a choir as like you I am overwhelmed by the other voices. I have Phonak Sphere aids which block my ears as well. Hope that there will advice on this.

This is a rather delicate problem. I have been singing all my life, in boys choirs, and later in professional ensembles. My hearing started to deteriorate in my mid 40ties.

From that moment on, I have been struggling to fine-tune my intonation in relation to the other choir singers, because the devices sometimes perform strangly and make it difficult for me to hear what goes on around me.

Choir singing requires a huge amount of listening and that is the problem for us hearing impaired.
