Does anyone see anything exciting coming out in the new year in the hearing aid industry? As in some new aid or new technology that breaks the mold of year after year, baby steps, minor changes? CES 2026 is about a month away, and I’d bet everyone lunch here here there will be nothing mentioned, displayed, or offered regarding new hearing aid technology in 2026 or beyond. Currently, over 1.5 billion people worldwide experience some degree of hearing loss, with about 430 million having disabling hearing loss, yet you won’t hear a peep at CES about upcoming hearing aid changes or breakthroughs. Yes, it gets old year after year seeing all the CES attention going to cell phones, smart glasses, advanced A.I., futuristic vehicles, etc. While nothing regarding future hearings aids.
Whatever happened to xMens/Labs’ breakthrough for hearing aids?
Whatever happened to invisible Cochlear Implants?
Whatever happened to rechargeable aids that last a week or more?
Whatever happened with hearing aids with deep neural networks6 ()
Whatever happened to hearing aids built into smart glasses?
Whatever happened to aids that can run off body heat, replacing batteries?
Etc.
With Baby Boomers now at their peak golden years, it seems the HA industry is slowing research, consolidating more, and offering very little “hype” of any significant changes coming down the road. No wonder the hearing challenged would jump at the chance of Apple or Google, Mets, etc., getting into the hearing aid business and shaking things up. Becuause things really do need to be shaken up in hearing aid land.
