Soundgear Amp RIC review

I picked up my Soundgear from Costco on 7/10/26.

I had done and the results were all with in 5, most were closer to 2 or 3.

I have a Pixel 9 phone so I already loaded the app and the hearing aids were connected to the phone. We went over the app and I had them load in Personal, Restaurant, Music and Outdoor programs.

I go back on 7/18 for my check up with the Costco audiologist.

I can definitely hear more sounds than I did before. There is a low level hissing in the background that I was able to mask by creating a new program and dropping the mids down in the equalizer. I get the audiologist to work on that in my next check up.

The battery life is pretty good. I typically wear the for 14 to 16 hours a day along with 5-6 hours of streaming. The end of day the hearing aids still have 20 - 40% battery left. The premium charger is amazing. I charged the battery in the charger today after 8 days of charging my ha every night and before I plugged it in the charger still showed 2 bars of charge. Really impressed with the charger.

Connectivity for streaming is fantastic. Videos, podcast, music all clear, great connections. I also bought the Avantee transmitter for my TV and that works like a charm. Crystal clear and I can control the volume by my phone or the transmitter also has a + and - for volume.

I’ve only done 2 hands free phone calls with the HA. Both were clear and both sides had no distortion. The Pixel needs to answer the phone using Google Assistant. Hey Google answer phone and it does. As far as I can find out there are no buttons on the HA to answer and hang up phone calls.

Overall the HA are solid performers and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for premium aids at a Costco price.

I have a pixel 10 I use with my edge ai aids.

I also have a Pixel 2 watch. I use the watch to answer and make calls.

I tell the watch call so in so. It does.

Call comes in I tap the watch.

Nice review. Other than the hiss you had initially, your review is spot on with my thoughts after using my Amps for almost 4 months.

Edge mode + still has a hissing sound to me so I have address that this Friday when I go for my appt.

When I first trialed the I had them put edge mode on so I could turn it on and off while walking around the store and it sounded good to me then.

I’ll let you know how it works after my adjustment.

Do you see any advantage to edge mode

.

The Edge mode has not been helpful for me in the various environments I’ve tried it.

I’ve only tried it 3-5 different times, in various situations.

I’m fairly satisfied with the Personal profile for 95% of my situations.

Occasionally I will switch it to Restaurant mode when dining out with others.

I do change it to Car mode so that the music from the Radio sounds more natural.

I have the disposable batteries version of the Soundgear AMP EDGE model. I’m not in the mood for the built-in battery to RIP in 2-3-4 years.

I have the custom ear molds, Behind The Ear, Receiver In Canal.

I’m pleased with the Soundgear AMP from Costco!

I went for my 2 week check up after purchasing the soundgear ric but I was told I could go to my local Costco because all stores now have the pro fit software. Well what a waste of time that was. The original Costco I purchase the soundgear is 60 miles away so I figured going to my local store would save me a couple hrs of traveling. My local store was not prepared at all even though I told them when I made the appt it was the Soundgear HA. They tried to be helpful but they needed to turn off the HA in order to connect to pro fit but you can’t do that with the Soundgear unless you have the charger. I didn’t bring mine and they didn’t have one either. So we made another appointment for a hour long in the booth session for this week. I’ll bring my charger. They said they will need to call Soundgear to try to reduce the hissing background noise I have in all the programs except for music. I guess I’ll see how this one goes. Wish me luck. :+1:

During the fitting of the Soundgear AMP devices, I asked Alyssa if she had built-up the muscle memory on using the Starkey ProFit software.

Even after 6-7 months of dispensing the Soundgear (Starkey) , she admitted that it takes conscious purposeful actions to make the tweaks on my profile in the software.

Which corroborates with @Jamesdjs episode with his nearby Costco.

Personally, I would keep driving to the far away store to have the experts properly do the adjustments to the profile.

Let the novices learn the Starkey ProFit software on other people.

At the Burbank store, Alyssa mentioned on the phone and in person that her customers had feedback noise with the Soundgear. She was hesitant on recommending those HAs to customers. However, she was willing to give it a try with me. Love the open dialogue and willingness to go with the customer’s preference!

With 55-years of HA usage, I told her that custom ear molds was my preference. Also said I am :100: not worried about feedback noises. She was relieved and agreed with that choice.

After 5 weeks, it’s been just fine.

If I need more adjustments, I will drive 85-minutes again to the Burbank store in the LA traffic. Alyssa’s expertise is worth it. The nearby stores will need 6-months of experience with Soundgear to get my attention.

.

It was $1759.99 for the L-R pair of (disposable battery, , Soundgear AMP)

It was $72.99 for each Soundgear Custom Cased Receiver

I’ve included the printed receipt. I blanked out the sensitive areas.

FYI for clear phone calls

I had a problem relating to hands free calling. I have a Pixel 9 with the Soundgear. Some calls, the person on the other end could not understand what I was saying, I was garbled and intermittent. Like when I was in the grocery store.

It appears the pixel phone was interfering with the microphones. To clear up the problem I turned off clear calling on the pixel and now every phone call is crystal clear.

Turn Off “Clear Calling”

Pixel’s -powered Clear Calling feature filters background noise from incoming call audio. Because Soundgear devices already process incoming sound through their own digital signal processor (), running Pixel’s noise reduction on top creates audio artifacting that makes voices sound underwater or garbled.

  1. Go to Settings > Sound & vibration.

  2. Tap Clear calling.

  3. Toggle Clear calling to OFF.
