Auracast and Soundgear AMP 2

The back story: I have an appointment this morning with my Costco fitter. I have Jabra EP 30s and I am struggling with the sound quality being harsh. My fitter is great about working with me. I am well within my 180 day return window. Soundgear’s were not at my store when I got the Jabra’s, but I am reading they are now (finally!). I will ask about them today.

My question is about using with the soundgears (and I realize people would only have experience the AMP as opposed to AMP 2s). Is it easy to connect to the auracast transmission? I ask because I use the auracast with the Jabra’s and they connect easily, but Dr Cliff said there are connection issues (maybe an older video?). I am fairly techie, but it certainly would be better if it wasn’t an issue.

Based on my experience with the Omega , I don't think you'll have any problems connecting - I had the Starkey app on my iphone 16.

Depends which type of smartphone you have, Android or iPhone.

Some of the Android phones have built-in transmission capabilities.

iPhones do not have built-in Auracast transmission.

However, iOS does have built-in software to support Auracast accessories. The Soundgear & Starkey apps use that component of iOS to transmit audio to the AMP, EDGE & Omega hearing aids.

The Made For iPhone (MFI) connection from my iPhone 15 to the Soundgear AMP 1 is fine indoors. Usually the iPhone is in my hand or on a table when having phone conversations or streaming music.

However, when walking outside with iPhone in my pocket, the sounds are flakey. When I turn my head, sound on one ear will drop out briefly.

With the Avantek Auracast USB-C Aura C82 dongle on the iPhone, the sound streaming improves significantly. It’s not perfect, and it is good enough for me for the iPhone to remain in my pocket.

Occasionally the connection reverts to the MFI protocol while in my pocket. Which means the sound quality degrades for podcasts and is tolerable for music streams.

Lastly, the USB-C dongle is not a tank. It will eventually break due to all the jostling in my pocket. That is life 🤷🏾‍♂️

I have pixel 9 and use the Avantee Audikast transmitter for my TV and I have no problems. Sound quality is great. Phone calls are very clear. Never had a dropped connection even with the phone in any pocket. I don't think the iPhone does as good as the pixel but depends on the model

Thank you all for the replies. As clear as I tried to be, apparently I didn’t explain completely.

I have an iPhone and an Avantree Voyager transmitter. The Jabra’s connected to the Avantree easily. Dr Cliff said the Starkey app sometimes couldn’t find the transmitter in his office. So that was why I asked the question. But I realize there could be a number of reasons he had issues that may or may not apply to me.

Anyway…I demoed the AMP2s this morning and liked them. I ordered them!!!!

The soundgear amp app finds my signal every time I open the app to stream auracast. On my pixel phone I don't have to use the soundgear amp app for auracast streaming, my phone picks up all available signals and I can listen through the

I also have an Avantree device connected to our TV.

On my iPhone 15, the Soundgear app is able to find the TV-connected Auracast device each and every time.

Cliff might have had problems due to his TV not being in the correct PCM setting for audio-out.

Being technically savvy, it took me a LONG time to get our LG TV properly into PCM audio mode for compatibility with the Avantree Auracast device. I had to do a few non-intuitive things that have now escaped my memory.

I would expect a TV not set to the correct encoding to not work with the transmitter at all. The TV would simply be speaking a language not understood by the transmitter.

One of my tvs had the pcm but the new samsung did not. I used a HDMI ARC cable audio extractor for about $20 and it has an optical out that worked great.

I have an Avantree Audikast 4 connected to my TV & a C82 connected to my laptop. I have the SoundGear AMP and use the My SoundGear app to select and connect to the device I want to listen to. Both work great & always connect quickly.
