Starkey Omega AI equalizer default

I was just fitted with a new Starkey Omega 24 mRIC. After my audiologist completed adjusting the hearing aids as part of the , she added three additional programs, Crowd, Auditorium and Music. When I set up the My Starkey app on my iPhone 16 and went to see how it worked, I saw the equalizer for the “Automatic” program was set at Bass = +5, Mid = +5 and Treble = +1. I reached back and asked the audiologist why this default setting of the equalizer was something very different than 0, 0, 0. She said that she didn’t know and that must be the way that Starkey handles the equalizer settings. Has anybody also encountered this or can tell me what Starkey has in mind in setting up the default this way?

Your audiologist needs to contact a Starkey audiologist and find out. “I don’t know” isn’t a good answer. You’re paying them to know. I don’t fit Starkey and am not intending to do so but would be keen to know the answer when your audiologist finds out.

I will post what I find out from my Audiologist and/or Starkey (user) tech support. May I inquire why you do not fit Starkey (personal choice, clinic policy/choice, other)?

If they’re anything like Phonak, there is a setting in programming that rates the user’s experience level with hearing aids. My most recent experience with new iSpheres was that music overpowered speech while streaming movies. It was determined that Phonak wanted the default to enhance the music streaming experience in the experienced user mode. We had to dial that back manually.

This happened to me in personal after one adjustment. I didn’t ask about it. It went away after the next adjustment. No clue as to why

I don’t blame you. I’ve heard about some of Starkey’s unique policies in a round about way. Different ways to run a business. Their product seems to be good, but they don’t make easy on. .

What was dialed? Less gain for low frequencies, more for mids and highs? Or changing from 3.0 to 5.0/?

It was more low and mid range to make it more boomy and full. She had to manually adjust the streaming music curve to match the streaming speech curve, since there was no way to control when auto sense switched from streaming speech to streaming music. That was before Ultra came along.

To (sort of) close the loop, I spoke to Starkey Customer Tech Support. I wasn’t surprised when they told me that this is the way the Audiologist set them up. Earlier, when I asked the audiologist, she said she had not set the equalizer adjustments and said it must have been something that happened automatically. When I asked if she had run into this before with the Starkey Omega or Starkey in general, she said she had never gone in after a fitting or adjustment and looked at the equalizer. So, there seems to be a lot of collective ignorance going around. I’m scheduled for my first follow up in a week and a half. It will be interesting to see what happens after that.
