Struggling with Specsavers Advance Elite after Oticon

I’m really miserable and I don’t know what to do. I am not a new user, had Oticon Opn S 2s from 2019 (in UK) and never had any problems with them. Unfortunately had a mic error after 6 years and couldn’t afford to replace them. Was going for NHS but got talked into trying specsavers advance elite (unitron). I have had nothing but trouble with them. They don’t seem to improve my hearing clarity at all, just make things sound harsher and I can’t hear lower registers, tv or speech properly (i have moderate loss bordering on severe). The most annoying thing is they seem to be constantly changing and suppressing all sound, like someone turned the volume right down. It is exhausting, I just can’t make out what is being said. I realise it is newer tech than I’m used to but surely I should be able to function with them in. Have changed dome types, settings etc. The audiologist says it can’t be a problem with the aids as they are brand new, won’t redo my and implies I am the problem. Been told I have to wear them for 2 weeks before coming back again even though I can’t hear properly with them in. I’ve tried changing the levels in the app but it makes no difference at all. I’m exhausted and upset and wonder if it will improve and if it is my fault somehow.(costco not an option, please don’t suggest, thanks)

Maybe something wrong with the fitting, and not the aids. I’m sorry poor service. What would it cost them to redo your ? 20 minutes of their time? Take them back if you are still in the 100 day return period, then try NHS.

If you did not have Real Ear Measurement get rid of of them immediately and make sure you get the 100 day refund. I would recommend you stick with Oticon and go and find a provider that will fit using Real Ear Measurement if you are still going private. Otherwise stick with the NHS as they will upgrade Oticon models in time to a model that is reasonably current - like the More. The reason for sticking with Oticon is because you have acclimitised to it.

The other reason for my recommendation is that like you, I went to Specsavers and bought the Unitron Elite model. It was a disaster as it was not fit properly, I switched to a Phonak Lumity - which again was poorly fit. I switched to an Oticon Intent elsewhere and have not looked back. It is outstanding.

I would never buy hearing aids from Specsavers again, after 3 failed trials in as many years, they asked me politely to go elswhere.
