TOTALLY understand and believe all of us can relate. I was so anxious - hard not to be when you think of what will be done. BUT the leading up to is certainly more stressful than the actual procedure.

I wish you nothing but the best for tomorrow and have NO doubt that you will be in/out and home before you know it. Then on your way to a better hearing world!

Thank you all. It’s 13hrs until surgery… Trying to relax but it’s hard. Still worried and stressed. Following all my steps. Going to take the pups out for a run at the dog park then come home and do my CHG shower and fast…. Can’t believe it’s really happening.

I just wanted to make a comment about frequency responses. When you do research on this you will find that is really bad concerning frequency responses. This is not as true as the research states. What people don’t talk about or understand is the capacity of the human brain. It can twist, turn and bend sound as needed to get an understanding. When you do rehabilitation or practice as I call it you are training your brain to learn new sounds and how to identify them. Speech is easier than music. Music, like speech in noise has much more sound for the CI to take in and for the brain to figure out. It takes more practice to learn music and also speech in noise but persistence will win. These things I shared are things I have learned. My point is don’t give up because something is difficult. Hang in there and make the most of your hearing.

@Raudrive I made a post about my surgery experience, but essentially doing okay now! I have -II (Incomplete Partition Type II) which puts my risk of a CSF (Cerebral Spinal Fluid) gusher at 50%, and this happened, so it had to get plugged by the surgeon and I had to stay overnight for monitoring.

Even more restricted now because of this, but essentially no exercise and activities for 4 weeks instead of a couple weeks. This is to allow the plug to heal and seal properly and not cause another CSF leak.

I am doing ok, apart from being extremely bored not doing much!

Essentially the fluid around your brains. My anatomy puts me at high risk for a leak happening during surgery, so my surgeon was well prepared to handle this (and did so brilliantly).

I’m scheduled for activation on 4th August, so not long! I just have to take it easy since any excessive cranial pressure for the next 4 weeks (sneezing, lifting, exercise, etc) could undo the plug and I’d be at risk for complications related to to CSF leak.

My surgeon mentioned this as a possibility but not like yours. Good luck and try to relax.

Activation is not far off. Another hurdle to conquer.

I feel your pain, please do take care of yourself and follow instructions very carefully.

I’ve been down that road, i have had a Lumbar CSF leak. My surgeon put a stitch in it, which didn’t hold. I had to go back to theatre 3 weeks later to have the meningocele drained and a muscle patch put in the dura to try close the hole.

Mine is in the inner ear where the cochlear sits, they packed it tightly with muscle tissue and it held during operation and hasn’t leaked yet so far. Fingers crossed it holds out!
