Transcription product

Google’s Live Transcribe is fantastic if you have an Android phone. It is free, fast, highly accurate and saves transcripts for 3 days so you can copy them into a doc. Some people buy a $300 Android just for this app and if the phone has 6GB RAM you can download the vocabulary and don’t need a wifi connection. There are others out there like Innocaption, Ava and Nagish, not sure about transcripts.

Samsung’s recorder app has an AI summary feature. However, it requires at least an S23 or higher model, which has an NPU processor to achieve full capability:

I don’t know does newest Samsung A56 has effective NPU for AI calculation, but I think it should.

Thank you Bimodal_user. I will look into this. I have an S24 Ultra so I’m good there. I need to be able to easily save what is being transcribed from my meetings. Their Live Captions leave a lot to be desired because of the errors. I just saw it is only available on Pixel which I do not have.

Unfortunately, when I checked into NALScribe, it is only for Apple products. I am Android, but it looks really great! Thank you.

I would check out Otter.ai. I first started using it 3 years ago since I have an Iphone and Google Transcribe was not available to me. It is now available for both Apple and Android, has several differnet price plans, and I have used it for both in person meetings and to capture conversations in Teams meetings. It’s nice to be able to capture the transcript and review with your notes later.

What version Android is needed, I just happen to have an old android that works perfectly!

To use Google Live Transcribe, you need an Android phone running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or later. While it works on most Android devices, the best experience is typically found on newer Pixel devices. For offline functionality, you may need a device with at least 6GB of RAM, which is not the memory we commonly refer to with phones.

Be aware that Apple.store has an inferior “Live Transcribe” app that is not Google’s app and not as good.

Here is a link that might include helpful apps: 10 Best Apps for People with Hearing Loss: Top Picks76. I like AVA, but to get the most accurate version you have to subscribe.

A free app that works well for a group like that is Microsoft Translatter. It is free, easy to use, and works on all devices. If a member isn’t fluent in English, it also translates to most other languages. It was developed originally for translation, but if set for English to English, you now have an excellent speech to text app. It was demonstrated at an HLAA National Convention a while back.

Thanks! I’ll check it out.

I have Live Transcribe on my phone and I find it helpful - but there doesn’t seem to be a way to set it to NOT record what people are saying?
Problem is, I regularly attend a group meeting with people who are not personal acquaintances, and I believe that, legally, I’m supposed to ask permission of each and every one of them before recording their speech.
Live Transcribe can be set to delete recordings after 24 hours, but I don’t think that’s sufficient to satisfy the law.
Or is there an alternative app that DOESN’T record?

Maybe produce a standard announcement before the meeting starts saying that you will be recording exclusively for the purpose of producing a transcript, and that the recording is for your own use only and will be destroyed after use.
That should cover you in most places, but I would still worry about litigation-happy Americans…
