Are these to id which is left and right: Yes
I bought them used, one of them is missing. I still have the red one, so it is not critical

If you’re referring to the color marks which indicate left from right, as Tenkan mentioned, here are three tips which may help:
A) After some time, the wire from device to the speaker in the ear permanently takes on a noticeable shape & ‘points’ the in-ear speaker in the correct direction. This is my clue for which goes in which ear when it’s too dark to see the little dots on my Signia.
If you’ve got concha locks, they are another clue. When held next to the wrong ear, the lock will point the wrong way.
B) Open a jar of correction fluid, such as White Out, and use a toothpick to put a tiny dot on each device. When it dries, on top of the white out, put a felt tip marker blue dot on the left and red dot on the right. White Out is cheap at a dollar store. (And stupidly expensive at office supply stores.)
Or, just dot one with the White Out and remember which it is. If you clean with alcohol, the White Out won’t wash away. The felt marker usually will.
C) Most devices have available replacement shells. This is the money costing solution.
Hope This Helps!
Paul

Ask a local place that sells Widex if they have any spares? The place that helped with your firmware glitch might be a good place to try.
