Is the ReSound Vivia a Dud?

One more thing I am afraid to ask. My insurance company allows 3200 for hearing aids. My audiologist charged them 3100. I’ve read Vivia 7 can be gotten for about 1600-2200? Is this true? They’ve never mentioned a trial period either. They forced these on me. I didn’t get to choose. There’s things on the invoice they’ve never handed me. Like domes. Wax protectors. Plus the reciever wires. They may come with the hearing aids but the invoice makes it look like an extra set. Thank you for listening.

Not locked. But remember that SmartFit automatically makes a history log with each session. So Costco will see if you made adjustments. The Costco store I used to go to had issues with me self adjusting. Even going so far as to say i may be affecting the warranty. They claimed i may do damage somehow, but couldnt say how. I changed stores and the new store has no issues with self adjustments. Seems to vary with store location

It’s called data logging. It can be turned off or on. That’s why I haven’t messed with mine yet because I am concerned what my audiologist will think about it. It’ll reach a point that I don’t care though. Appreciate your input. Thank you.

It’s actually a time stamp difference they notice, but yeah if you actually make a few changes they’ll get the data mismatch pop up, but as you say no need to worry about it as your going , actually I don’t know why anyone would even bother telling them your doing DIY, just “i donno” what happened, or you were out of state and needed something adjusted from some one else etc, one thing I keep mentioning to people is the belong to you and the clinic works for you, not the other way round.

I agree. Just in case. You never know how irate he may get. Refuse me as a patient even.

I didnt tell them initially but as soon as audi connected to smartfit i saw the expression on her face change and she asked me if i let someone adjust my aids. I lied and said my friend has SmartFit and was showing me how the settings looked and we noticed they never set my aids for using custom molds, she still had it set to domes. So we set that correctly and increased low freqs for streaming. She got all huffy and said i could “ruin” the aids and possibly void the warranty. I knew that was bs so i changed stores, which we both prefered. And the other store i go to now has more experienced techs so i dont really feel like i need to do any adjustments, even though they seemed to encourage it.

Yeah it’s weird how some get a bit sore over this, and in your case your lucky you found that others are completely ok with it, having the audiologist, on board is always a bonus.

Doctors trust patients to take medicine in the correct dose where error could be fatal and void the warranty so to speak.

Audiologists do not trust patients to look at settings, add a new program, add a few gain at 2K which one will roll back quickly if it’s too much, etc., none of which will void the warranty and if it did that’s a relatively low risk.

It’s probably another sign of an audiologist to avoid and perhaps should be a screening question when looking for a new one. I’ve been calling around and audiologists are lucky they work with hard of hearing as some say things that are not accurate.

I very much agree with that - if an audiologist is hostile to people who do little tweak on their own, I perceive that as wanting to be in total control rather than working with the patient.

And if the Audi sees self tweaking as questioning their judgement or authority, IMHO that’s just as bad of a sign.

Luckily my Costco Audi is smart and confident, and is totally onboard with what I’m doing. She just even asked for any insights that I might have gained.

During my fitting at Costco for the Jabra 30’s, the fitter learned as much from me as I learned from Her. I pointed things in the software the she was not aware of, and she showed my other things .

Medical Schools have been saying that since I went to Medical School 60 years ago. They try. But huge debt; poor pay in the primary care specialties; the thrill of clinical medicine and the premium pay in many of the sub-specialties all move many of those with the best intentions into the specialties. It’s what happens.
