I've not read this entire thread, but I may have something to add (or apologies if this is a duplication of info...). Not Sphere, but I'm guessing that's nothing to do with the bluetooth connection topic here.
I'm currently trialing Sennheiser Sonite Rise aids form costco (= phonak's I-90R), for a couple of months I was using them with a 5 year old OnePlus android phone. Pretty solid connection comparable to my over 7 years wearing Phonak Marvels.
My experience suggests that it might be the phone and not the aids.
I upgraded to a newer android phone, a Pixel 11. Connectivity went into the gutter. Mostly for phone calls but generally just not great. Dropping signals during the call was my biggest issue. Sometimes one side would drop out. Sometimes it would come back after a time, sometimes one side would drop and then a minute or so later the other side would drop and the call would revert to the phone's earpiece. Other times I'd get static, sort of like I'd get with the old Marvel aids when the phone would be in my opposite pocket or would otherwise just be too far away... except this time the phone would be in my hand no more than 16 inches in front of my face. Still, other times both aids would drop simultaneously without warning and the call would switch to the phone's earpiece.
It was basically unusable. I've been in contact with Phonak's tech support. No help. I've been going back and forth with Google's disability support team (for the phone) for nearly a month. I've sent them several debug reports.
At one point they suggested that I try some aids that use LE bluetooth. (which, incidentally, I'm doing now, in part for this issue, but more so because I've become less excited about phonak's noise suppression turning down the rest of the room and inadvertently turning down my daughter's voice that I'm trying to hear.) Anyway, I found that suggestion to be oddly funny. I basically asked them if they had broken their bluetooth classic support. That's the baseline old tech that they've had for very many years and I have used successfully, so I would think that they really should have that dialed in very well.
