[I wrote this last night, but it disappeared].

Yesterday, they had been in the charger all night and were fully charged. But the battery lasted only 10 hours or less on each !! I just got them 2 weeks ago. I’ll see what happens going forward, but that doesn’t seem right.

I wasn’t streaming or even talking on the phone, just listening. Yikes.

If you had Hear in Noise selected as your program, that is why the battery life of a so short (because the chip is on). But if you select any other program then you will find that the battery life is much longer, far more than a day.

I have been using Hear in Noise, since I never had before (in spite of really needing them!), I was having a hard time with the loudness of everything, like the ticking of clocks, running water, walking on floor boards. Yesterday, and more today, I have been able to listen with All Around, so that should be better. I had no idea that Hear in Noise used more battery power. Thank you both!

I don’t know what I’d do without the forum! I couldn’t call Costco with every issue that comes up!

That’s the issue then! Hear in Noise is specifically to help you hear and understand speech in noisy places. All Around is much more suitable for general life and doesn’t turn on the chip. So the battery life is exceptional in my experience. Also don’t turn Bluetooth off (it will be on by default). That’s not necessary at all with these aids. They aren’t made by Phonak!

You will get used to things sounding loud. It’s a totally normal reaction to having hearing aids for the first time and everyone goes through this.

Thank you, David! Yes, these noises that I may never have heard like this, are extraordinary and disruptive at first, but I am starting to get used to them. But I can’t believe that our floor boards, old as they are, are this darned noisy!!

Yes, I knew that it is a normal experience in getting used to .

Funny, last night there was a nature show we had on tv about big cats if Africa, lions and cheetahs. And, as I put my HAs in, I suddenly heard the birds in the background on the show! I mentioned this to my husband, and he said, “Well, Allen, our neighbor, when he got his HAs, said, “Now I can hear the birds in the trees outside!” My husband said, “Now you can hear the birds in Africa!” Yeah, my HAs are that good.

When a friend of mine got hearing aids for the first time, he was amazed that he could now hear the sound of his bare feet walking on their carpet. One forgets how much one loses as one’s hearing gradually goes off.

Agree with the statements here - the HIN program works great for me - and it definitely uses more power / battery than the general program.

There have been a few times that I forgot to turn it off when leaving a restaurant. not only am I using more power - but the HIN program (for me) doesn’t sound great if I’m in a “normal” environment.

I added my house to the GPS info - so when I get back home the automatically change back to the general program in case I forgot to do so.

That’s a good idea. In this case, I was using it to ease the transition to getting used to for the first time. My Costco provider suggested it when I protested that All Around was way too loud for me. Not knowing about the battery issue.

The noise is getting better, but still a lot of everyday sounds are awful. And a lot of them are not anything like sounds ever were before. Well, I know, my hearing will never be what it was before, sadly. But we’re lucky to have the devices.

I have progressed to be able to tolerate the All Around program now, plus my fitter changed the settings so they are at 80% (I think that’s it), so the background noises are not so loud.

But even so, I prefer to use the Noise Filter option in the All Around to filter out the loudness of the background noises. But that also seems to use more battery, although not as much as Hear In Noise.

Am I right that the Noise Filter also uses up more battery?

No it shouldn’t do. But when you are hearing a lot of noise, then the hearing aids will be using more battery power regardless of which setting you have it on.

The Hearing in Noise battery consumption is higher because a second chip (the Dense Neural Network) is basically call a computer that is working hard to identify when the noise is speech and when it isn’t.

David, thank you. I understand. It’s amazing how much background noise there can be that I haven’t been aware of for years. It sounds like more than I ever heard! Although, that issue is much better than it was, because the fitter just programed my aids for 80%, due to the fact that I couldn’t tolerate the loud background noise.

Frankly, I don’t think that I ever heard this noise like this or that loud, ie, loud, creaking floor boards as I walked around our apartment. Granted, it’s an old building, finished in 1931, but still . . .
I also live in a loud city!! And an old city, where there is constant construction/reconstruction, sirens, garbage trucks, etc, Not to mention subway noise.

Funny, off-topic story: The UN is in session this week in our city, which makes for horrendous traffic jams. (I was stuck in traffic in a cab on Monday: I had to get out and walk as we couldn’t move).

I read in the news that Macron was stuck in traffic, and his 7 cars of people couldn’t move. He got out to plead with the traffic cop to let him cross the street. The cop said, I’m sorry president, but I can’t let you move,", because there was a motorcade coming through.

Macron said, Is it Trump? The cop said, yes. So Macron called up Trump to tell him he was stuck in traffic due to his motorcade.
“And by the way, I want to talk to you about” blah blah blah issues.

So Macron and his people walked 20 blocks with people stopping for selfies and one man kissing him on his forehead! (Not at all political, just a funny story).
