I have been an Oticon OPN1 user for 6ish years until one of my died and forced me to look at new ones. I’m now 4 months into wearing Jabra Enhance Pro 20s and wondering if it’s time to send them packing.
I’ll start off by saying I have a cookie bite, mid range loss that I know can be more difficult to fit, and speech clarity is my main issue.
I was initially pretty hopeful with the Jabras, as I seem to have better clarity in quiet environments, but it seems that the issues I’m having in more complex environments aren’t getting any better with adjustments. I’ll try to list some of the main problems.
1 In a noisy environment, I can’t hear people talking to me in close proximity unless they are naturally loud.
2 In a noisy environment, the sound often cuts out - lots of time I feel like my ears are plugged. Sometimes I it will sound like I am hearing through a soft far away speaker for 5 or so minutes until the sound comes back. These things don’t usually happen immediately, but after I’ve been in the environment for a couple of minutes.
3 In the car the volume seems to randomly cut out and back in.
4 The different programs and app adjustments don’t seem to help. I have the Hear in Noise, Music and Outdoor programs and they all seem to dull speech clarity. Even Hear in Noise is disorienting and doesn’t give me better speech clarity. I also don’t find the Noise Filter or Speech buttons helpful or the additional sliders. The Wind Noise slider does nothing to cut down wind noise and wind sounds like a loud smack on my HA.
My main concern is if the Enhance Pro 20s can actually handle complex environments or if these issues are just the way they are? Despite it being newer technology than the OPNs, does Oticon just handle these environments better? Do I just need more adjustments with these? Are there any Costco brands that would be a better fit for me? I can’t stand the style, so it would need to be the type option, so not sure if the Enhance Pro 30s are an option yet.
