Streaming phone calls into my new Jabra 30's

When I make phone calls from my iPhone, and it gets streamed into my , the sound is terrible! It’s worse than simply putting the call on speakerphone.

When I mentioned it in another thread people said that that is common when streaming into the aids. I did mention it my fitter, but he didn’t respond specifically to that. Maybe there just wasn’t time for it.

Is there anything that can be done about it? If not, that will drastically cut down on the utility of the aids. Does it vary a lot with different aids?

Years ago I used a headset, but that wouldn’t even work with a new phone that has no headphone jack.

PS. I’ve only had the aids since August 26th, and they are my first aids after many years of bad Audiologist situations (some of which were because our insurance was through a company that didn’t pay them much).

You can still connect headphones to your phone.

They connect through the charging port.

Depending whether you have a lighting are USB C, you just need the right headphones. You can also buy an adapter to fit what ever you have.

Closed domes/moulds usually perform better than open domes.

I have moulds and a tin ear. I also have distortion in my left ear. So I can’t really say how good something should sound.

I use an app called precise volume. You can adjust some of the frequencies for music. You can find an app like that and try to see if that helps.

If you are using an iPhone make sure “Optimize ” is turned off in the Jabra App. It is in the “More” tab at the right of the bottom of the App.

I know it is a little counter intuitive but that is the option that my Costco fitter made sure was off during the fitting. Others have also confirmed in threads on these forums that turning “Optimize MFi” off improved streamed phone calls.

My experience is the quality is normally good when streaming calls to my Jabra Pro 30’s. That said I generally just use the phone speaker which has similar quality.

I have tulip domes. I domes know if they are the right domes/molds for me or not; these are my first aids, although I’ve needed aids for at lease 12 years!!

The app sounds good, but right now I’’m at the rudimentary level with getting used to/ajusting the aids. But music is really important for me, so eventually I need to get there.

Are you saying that the app might help for phone calls?

Thank you. It already is turned off, and it still sounds terrible and I often can’t understand what people are saying. Is there any other option to make it sound better, besides speakerphone or a headset, whichI would only be good at home?

I think that I should call Costco, as our in person visit is not until October 11th.

I just bought an iPhone 16 a few months ago, and everything I have is in the Mac system. Years ago I had Android—back when they still had physical keyboards, which I wish they still had!! I typed great with them, but virtual keyboards are terrible for me; I have big hands and bad eye to hand coordination. Sigh.

Yes, I’ve been using the app since I got the . I use the app instead of the buttons on the HAs to change the volume or program, because the buttons on the aids are in an difficult place on the aids to use without dislodging them—at least for me. I probably should try it out more, I guess.

It's selling a retrofitted Q20 outright or with a less expensive mod kit if you happen to still have the original phone.

I may still have a Q20 sitting around in my inactive surplus. When I follow the link above, I don’t see an option to purchase the retrofit kit they mention in the article.

You can buy the Zinwa Q25 Pro outright for US$420 (about C$580). Alternatively, there’s a US$320 mod kit (about C$440) that adds the more modern components to a Q20 if you happen to still own one.

Further research shows the phone only comes with a basic Android 13. It will likely be missing the Bluetooth needed for some of the JEP 30 feature set.

Android to revive iconic Blackberry phone for just $4001

Chinese company Zinwa Technologies is taking decade-old BlackBerry Classic Q20 devices and retrofitting them with modern Android capabilities.

The Q25 Pro currently runs a basic version of Android 13, though Zinwa hasn’t committed to future Android updates unless there’s sufficient customer interest to justify continued development.

@Blue_Pearl1 I think you should seriously consider custom ear mold with your loss, and to get much better results streaming music, and calls.Tulip domes are way too open, and all the bass just leaks out. At the least get a , to keep some of that bass.

Have the set up a Music program for you, it should already be available to be added.

I’m thinking the Jabra must have setting for phone streaming in the software, and volume, richness, and bass boost can be adjusted for streaming.

Tell the HIS to increase the lows in the fitting software, keep your ears sealed, and you should get a decent streaming experience.

Too bad you’re stuck in the walled garden. Android has , which is a game changer!

Wow, Blackberries again!! I did fine with physical keyboards, but with virtual, it’s fairly frustrating. I have big hands and not great eye to hand coordination. the other option is to do spoken transcription, which also makes mistakes.

If they’re using old Blackberries, the screen to read is probably pretty small. My near vision is terrible. In December I will be hopefully getting Scleral Lenses in progressives. And I hope that I can do the progressives ok. My worry with them is looking down where I am walking, sidewalk, stairs, etc. I can’t afford another darned fall. I already have a PhD in falling!

These are my first aids, in spite of researching and trying audiologists for years! So I am a newbie at knowing what I need in terms of a mold or domes. But my hearing loss is quite terrible, so I am really grateful that you are saying that.

I like our , but I doubt that he is the most experienced HIS at this busy Costco. We are scheduled to go back on October 11th, maybe I should call ahead to see if he can schedule time to consider the molds, besides programming changes.

I also am having issues witu phone calls. For me, the volume is not loud enough on most calls. I had the ‘20s and didn’t have this problem.
As for domestic vs molds. There are different kind of domestic you can try. Your Hearing aid specialist will give you the ones that “match “ your hearing loss. However, you can ask them to trial different ones. Everyone has a different comfort level and their ear canals are shaped differently. I use 2 different sizes receiver’s and before I went to molds, had 2 totally different domes. I still had feedback so I went with custom ear molds.

The Jabra office said that with my loss, I should have molds with vents…..um no. I hated them. I heard better with full molds with no vents. Sooooo, the domes/molds make a difference. Some people will offer to ket you try different ones, others-you have to request to try different ones.

Definitely, the trouble with the phone calls is major, unless I just use speakerphone. But it would be ridiculous not to have the phone streaming work. Plus, I want to use streaming for music and for the tv, etc., so I need to be able to stream with decent sound.
