What might help is to assume no one here is interested in the in ear monitors aspect (even if some are) and instead interested only in the hearing loss aspect. People want to know how the device would be used, how it is of benefit, and since the claim it that it can restore hearing explain how with some detail as this is a knowledgeable bunch with collective centuries of hearing aid use. It seems it could not improve all types of hearing loss. What types does it help with and what types does it not?
The most I’ve been able to gather so far is perhaps ADEL increases sensitivity to sound through listening at low sound levels. That could be subjective without data such as improved , , etc. What data exists?
This thread has some information and links if anyone is interested:
What happens your hearing when you block your ears? Of course you battle the volume because of occlusion. Look at any musician using in ears and the volumes they’re at.
At no point did I say that was the cause or reason for hearing loss but you’re entitled to create such a meaning as you see fit
Most of what you’re saying sounds like you’re threatened rather than protective..one could say you sound fake in an attempt to prevent further open conversation.
I’m not here to convince any one. I’m only here to share my experience and tell people what the ADELs have done for me

That’s exactly what I’d like to know! There’s a lot of talk going on here, but no one can explain exactly how Adel manages to help me recover my hearing.
It protects your ears by absorbing pressures, preventing the occlusion effect and it allows low input while giving big sound. Therefore no strain on your ear drums. That coupled with educating yourself on perception and understanding goes a long way. I explained my experience as best I could, as clearly as I could. What more do you want from someone who shares his experience? A man who trained his hearing for 30 years who lost it and lost all hope of ever performing again. Until I found the ADEL I have hyperacusis on top of being deaf, moulds and ear pods etc all created pain for me while the ADELs were the only thing that worked. Why wouldn’t I share this? Why wouldn’t I want to help people not just in my position but anyone and everyone? You’re creating the issues here and pointing a finger elsewhere You’re branding my story fake without speaking to me or knowing me. As someone who suffers from hearing loss and knowing just how bad it can be, mentally and physically, I’m here to share what helped me with a rough outline of how they helped me and how I’ve seen them help others
I was in a bar at the weekend for a friends birthday. A band set up so I ran out to get my ADELs and paired them with a Roland mic. I was able to sit to the side/front of the band and hold conversation. This for me was huge. Not being able to socialise was a killer before I got ADELs.
I never claimed to be an expert I only decided to share what I’ve learned. This goes beyond anything I could have ever imagined when I was sitting at home feeling helpless. When specialists were telling me quit my career. When I was told don’t risk flying, don’t risk going to concerts don’t risk anything. Basically don’t have fun. The ADELs brought me out of that misery and when you hear your mother’s voice in your ear again there isn’t a hope anyone on any forum can ever bring you down . You’re wasting your time. But feel free to continue…meanwhile I’m here for anyone that feels like this might benefit them, especially those who were in a similar scenario I was in.
In that example, what would you hear without the ADELs? Then using which Roland mic connected to the ADELs you could have a conversation and listen to the music? How is the speech in noise in that situation? What would this situation have been like with hearing aids? After the event you remove the ADEL and then what can you hear?
If you would share some details connected with this situation you describe it would help with the skepticism.
Without them I would hear distortion and experience what feels like pain. Even with one reasonably good ear I used to struggle to hear people especially in loud environments. For the first few months of losing my hearing and trying hearing aids I was told I was shouting and any time a car drive by when I had a hearing aid in I’d almost drop to the floor with the pain. And I’m a big man! I would never have considered myself vulnerable before this happened me.
I don’t really use the ADELs on a daily basis any longer. But when I saw a band setting up I wanted to protect myself. I’ll get that distortion and pain at those volumes and it’s difficult to by pass it. I am attempting to get beyond it in extremely small doses. So I paired the ADELs with a Roland R-07. Sometimes I use a clip-on mic that goes into the Roland. This is to stop rustling or having to hold the Roland. I could hear the band and I could have conversations while the Roland was in the pocket of my shirt. There were times I took the Roland out and put it between me and someone I was speaking to….but that was later in the night when everyone was after a few drinks. Slurry speech and all that.
Afterwards when I was in the car I unplugged from the ADELs. I was driving everyone home. Numerous trips. People were speaking to me in the car and I could hear them fine. Obviously yes I have a working left ear. But often I leave the right ADEL in as hearing protection, not plugged into anything so no signal. I notice a significant difference in my environment when I remove it. I realise I can hear much more than I thought. This is how I’ve started building my perception of hearing in my right side. Pre ADELs I drove with moulded plugs, hearing aids and even builders headphone protectors. Now I can drive without them. I can also cross the road without being over loaded by fear! When I first went deaf I stepped out in front of a car. Yes it’s idiotic. Especially in times of electric cars. But I guess I got used to using my hearing as a double layer of protection. When I lost it it scared the hell out of me. I know it’s only a small silly thing, but crossing the road in peace meant a lot to me!
When you previously used ADEL daily, what did that look like and how did you use them and hear in different situations such as at home, phone, TV, grocery store, etc? You had to connect them to a wired mic and carry that around?
How does your before using ADEL compare to now? Does that fit with your subjective experience of your hearing?
Ok, I debated whether or not to speak up on this but since this is going on and on, I think I will. I’m going to try and be as fair as I can here as I don’t want to offend people. FYI if your hearing has genuinely been helped by this tech, that’s great and I wish you nothing but happiness. I’m just going to speak about my own personal experience.
I have tried this technology, actually bac in the summer of 2025, so very recently. as some of you know I have no eyesight and I find it hard to post my , but I suffer from low frequency loss. I can just about get by in some situations without hearing aids, but I use a set of Phonak Virto Rs day to day.
I have also, in a previous life been a sound engineer, so I’m very familiar with in ear monitors and the type of sound they produce.
The adel tech monitors are quite nice. they do produce a good sound but… here is the thing, in my opinion, nothing groundbreaking. Now it’s completely fair to say that I’ve lost a ton of hearing since I was a sound engineer. ask me 15 years ago and I might have said they sounded great. Someone with a different type of hearing loss will of course hear differently to me.
The inflatable tips do provide a good seal to the ear canal, something akin to putting a really well fitted custom mold into your ear. It doesn’t feel hard like a custom mold, it feels sort of warm and well fitted. Very hard to describe. Actually I imagined it completely before I put them in.
The mechanism is fairly simple to use, the wires are a bit thin, but yes they’re a decent set of IEMs.
Now comes the problem. For me at least, it just felt like putting a set of IEMs with custom molds in my ears. There was no magical listening experience. there was no magical return of bass freqs. I wasn’t hearing anything that I couldn’t hear with another decent set of cans.
Now I realise that yes, I only tried these for 10 minutes at most in a demo. People who vouch for this tech will tel you it probably needs a few days at least to begin to regain your hearing.
Thing is though, these things are thousands of £. maybe more. I was not willing to put that money down on what I considered to be something middle of the road. Not when I’d just put down 5k for the virtos, which whilst not perfect, do really help me in day to day life.
I also, for the record find the sales patter really upsetting. The basic MO is that hearing aids are sh*t. Yes that has been said. Not perhaps on this forum, but it has been said. No one is denying hearing aids have a long way to go to sound “natural” but dismissing an entire industry, a well researched industry is not the way to go about selling a very niche product which they are essentially in competition with. Also, I got sick of the endless storys and videos that felt like they were pushing the product even more and the… let’s just call it what it is, aggressive responses that I got when I questioned how these things would actually help me regain my hearing and what type of hearing loss they could treat. FYI “all" hearing loss” seemed to be the response.
Let’s be clear: These are good but not groundbreaking IEMs. You can pipe them onto a mic of course, but they will not have the features you expect from hearing aids which many people will miss. you can fit the adel tech onto an existing hearing aid, but it’s likely the same sound as a custom mold for more money.
If people genuinely get along with this tech honestly that is fantastic. I did not. Not for that price. Either way, if anyone is thinking of using it, please make sure you get a demo and please trust your gut and your ears, not the sales talk.
No idea if it’s been done sorry. Also not sure how would work since the tip would inflate and touch the mic which might scue the results. I experienced oclusion with the Adel monitors in. not as bad as with custom molds sure, but it was definitely there. I think the theory goes that you can run the hearing aids at a lower volume with the adel tech on the ends of them. Not sure what that is going to change though other than these magical muscles of the ear drum being less involved in my case, fluid is leaking into my cochlear and literally destroying my hair cells. drum has nothing to do with it.
There are no magical muscles in the ear. Just standard muscles. I thought it common knowledge that when you have relaxed muscles you preform smoothly and predictably.
I’m not dissing hearing aids. They didn’t work for me. They caused me pain more than anything. And the distortion was horrid. And it felt like they were crazy loud because of the hyperacusis. The ADELs took that away for me and gave me a peace that hearing aids couldn’t. And talking with Stephen helped me tremendously, a lot more than talking with so called specialists.
And before I got onto Stephen I was desperately seeking for something to help me. I asked for musician grade hearing aids and I was quoted €4,800….a side!!! €9,600. For something they said they can’t guarantee will work!! So yeah, 3,000 dollars I’ll take all day long! Especially considering they’ve got me this far. And I’m also not here to sell or pitch. That’s not my job. My job is playing drums. My side hustle is attempting to guide those who may need it.
It took me a little while to get used to how things sounded. I mean I dropped from perfectly healthy hearing to profound loss in a couple of minutes. So I was in.a bad way mentally and just trying to figure out how to survive. I spent a few weeks with them experimenting with different settings on the Roland. And just panning music from my phone.
My left ear levelled out according to a soecsavers exam. My right ear gained approximately 35db on the lowest frequencies. I was told these don’t matter but as a drummer I was beginning to hear bass drums again on my right side..ever so slightly anyway.
You’re confusing me for someone who obeys demands on one’s presumptions. If you’re looking for proof you’re looking for something you need, and your attempt to demand it falls way below who I am. I’m not here for this kind of communication.
Thats a great idea, why dont you jump on a zoom call with him and you can hear him out, we could even set up a mass zoom call for everyone here? X that would be so fun!
Isn’t the idea that one could have a closed mold effect without occlusion or stated sound exposure risks?
I believe so. Like a built in shock absorber, to soak up the sound pressure, and therefore occlusion. I guess this part is commercially sensitive, as it maybe their USP.
Closing because there is a lack of scientific or clinical evidence to support the use of this product for treating hearing loss. Personal anecdotes and testimonials are not sufficient evidence.
