Simply the Audiology industry trying to protect its income stream. Initially, I saw them as against self programming to protect people from making reckless adjusts that can serious damage their remaining hearing. I get this. However, my experience of our UK NHS Audiologists, showed they didn’t really know how to use the software they use all day, every day. Just lazy.

I am happy to allow my audiologist make the fitting changes. He doesn’t mind my suggestions and has made a number of adjustments due to my suggestions. He is a professor of audiology at the University Medical school and I have taken a few of his classes. And I have done a lot of my own research over the years most specially over the 7 years. But I don’t attempt to do . I don’t even own a computer anymore just tablet and phone. I am a retired IT professional and when I retired I also got rid of my computers and servers.i was so burnt out.

SO. TRUE. Much as I have been blessed to have my past and present audis, I have gone in to see them because of tips ‘n tricks I read HERE at the Forum. Then, the audi has had to get on the phone with Phonak and have a tech person walk them through HOW to do these things. This is everything from how to adjust sound going to Roger mic vs aids, how to copy/paste my Marvel settings into the new Lumity Life aids, how to add Acoustic Phone to my programs, how to cross-xfer my two (legitimate) Roger licenses to both pairs of aids, etc. And let’s also toss in when aids or charging bases are due for firmware update. I learn about those HERE and then go tell my audi. That’s both a Phonak and fitter issue.

Folks right here have figured out how to do these things on their own cuz they are incentivzed and curious. I have even faced scepticism over the things I’ve ask my audis to do for me.

I think this is quite common in this profession.

With regards to chargers, new Sphere come with chargers that have a rechargeable battery, so they will work when not connected to a USB C charger. I don’t know how many charges you would get, as I only have a left Sphere HA, with which the charger will last for at least 6 days disconnected to the USB charger. BTW, the charger you get is the Phonak ChargerGo RICSPH 1. I wasn’t aware that there was a non-rechargeable Sphere charger; if you want to purchase one, make sure it’s compatible with the Sphere HA.

I haven’t heard of anyone with any other charger except for the one with buildin battery.

My original infinios and the resound were both wall chargers. Finally goty spheres yesterday and it has the rechargeable base. So I don’t need to buy 1. So I only have 2 other sources to talk to, but these are awesome so far. Yes they are bigger and I have more fatigue behind my ears that I hope I get used to. But the use of these is great. I actually have had to check a few times to make sure they were on. Everything sounds so natural. Yes I can hear a slight his when scrolling but it’s much less noticeable then the resound and I never can tell when it’s switching modes. Again I didn’t try all brands but these are great.
