From Costco, should I get Soundgear/Starkey or continue with Jabra Enhance Pro 30 (now basic)

I’ve used hearing aids for 10 years, and intend to get new ones this week. My local Costco DOES have the new Starkey/Soundgreat AMP with Edge technology, apparently. I’ve been using for about 5 years, with relative satisfaction, the first Jabras, and no Jabra Enhance Pro 30 is what I’d get. I’m not tech savvy, but my hearing is average presentation / average bad (sorry, is that enough to say). Hearing people talk in noise is my greatest challenge. I’ll be able to keep my existing Jabras, (leaving a health plan for a new one is motivating this new purchase), so…although that COULD be a reason to go with the Starkeys (to have both), essentially, the intention will be to go forward with one set of hearing aids. Hopefully I’ll be able to trial both, but are there folks here with experience / knowledge of both that can advise? Thanks in advance. Ira Z.

Curious why you ask? Apparently my 2 ears are a bit different with respect to size. On the right, it’s a bit bigger, and I understand is an “open” dome. On the left…not sure…it is rounded?

I’m not asking what size. I’m asking what type, open, closed, power, or vented. Google it to see what you are using.

If you are using open domes, you will not get the full benefit from the hearing aid program for hearing-in-noise since an open dome is bypassing the hearing aid with some of that noise that you are having issues with. Since your low frequency hearing is still pretty good, it’s very possible you are using an open dome.

As far as which one to choose, you will just have to try them both to see, since everyone’s hearing is different. I’m not sure you could go wrong with either brand. However, I vote for you trying the Starkey brand since we don’t get much feedback on the brand.

However, if is something you think you might use either now or in the future, the Jabra comes with a stand alone app, so you don’t need a new phone to use it. The Starkey needs a newer Pixel or Samsung phone to find an Auracast broadcast.

I’m posting to add that as of 2 days ago, my Costco didn’t have the starkeys or know when they’d get them. If yours has them, great.

Also, so far, needs a newer phone from Samsung or Google, no matter what aids one has.

As long as your phone can use the stand alone app by Resound/Jabra or Oticon/Philips, you don’t need to buy a newer phone.

Starkey decided to go with the built-in OS app instead of building a stand alone app for their hearing aids.

My old Pixel 6a can use a stand alone Auracast app, and it’s several years old. I’ve used the QK connect app with the HomeSpot Auracast transmitter and headphones.

Auracast was designed to work with either a stand alone app or built in to the operating system.
