Need help with TV sound volume using TV streamer

I have been using the Resound TV Streamer 2 from Costco connected to my Costco Jabra hearing aids very successfully now for about three years. One of the problems I have with my TV connection is that I can’t mute or adjust the TV streamer volume the way I can with the audio from the TV speaker using the TV remote control. I like to be able to mute or adjust the volume with my TV remote frequently but this doesn’t affect the TV streamer volume at all. I have an LG TV with optical TOS and HDMI ARC outputs.

I bet there is a way to achieve the functionality I want using advanced gimmickry but I don’t know how. Have you figured this out? Please tell me how!

how are you connecting your streamer to you tv? For example, I’m able to adjust my Oticon Streamer separetely in two different ways.

  • if I connect via 3.5mm aux, I get two separate volume adjusts
  • if I connect via optical, I don’t have a separate volume, but adjusting the volume doesn’t do change the volume of the optical.

If you use the jabra app, you can mute the TV output by tapping the speaker icon at the left side of the volume slider.

If you have an older phone, the response my be unreliable and slow, but it works fine with newer phones.

Usually the TV remote controls don’t affect the optical audio output. Such output is intended to be a fixed standard level digital output to be piped in devices (e.g soundbars) which have a separate volume setting capability.

I use the app on my mobile to manage my own volume, letting my wife/son/daughter deal with the TV “room” volume.

To philbob57 and marcobuffa, yes using the app works, but if you want to mute as frequently as I do (as during commercials), going thru the app each time just takes too much time. Thank you for your response though!

If I wish to change the volume in the aids I use the buttons on the aids. When connected to the TVC the volume button changes the blend of TVC and ambient. Turn down the volume adds more ambient and lowers the TVC. Turn up the volume adds more TVC and lowers the ambient.
One could also get up and use the buttons on the TVC (if present).

But that doodad from CaptainTrips has it’s own remote. Nice.

@Rad : I don’t know if the Resound TVC takes both analog and digital. My Phonak does. It’s the same jack. 3.5mm (1/8”) that can take the pointy optical or an analog cable.
So optical out of the tv to this box. Then the analog aux out to the TVC (or the RCA jacks). A usb cable to power it. Could use that wall wart or a usb port on the tv if present.

Yes, I agree using the app is sometimes frustrating.

Another strategy could be programming the push button of the to switch back and forth from the streaming program, if the HAs support this.

IDK … picking up my phone, tapping to unlock, and tapping to mute/unmute vs picking up a remote and tapping mute/unmute aren’t all that different, especially if I have to find the remote or get it from my wife.

What do you want to mute? Ads? Consider going ad-free … no ads, no need to mute.

What phone do you have? If it’s an old Android, a new Android or middle-aged (2020?) or newer iphone will be faster. I keep the app active on my Pixel 9 and use biometrics to unlock the phone, so i just pick up the phone and hit ‘mute’, and it works very well. It worked very well with my 3rd gen iphone SE, too, but the Pixel is faster.

connect the strammer to AUX jack port not the fiber port and see if that helps also download the app for your hearing aid as it will give you better control i use be more app with iphone.

I mute the TV Streamer II (or the newer Streamer +) by clicking the right side button on my Jabra 30s. Un-mute by clicking the left button to enable streaming again. If you aren’t programed to do this, talk to your Costco fitter.
