You are the only group that will be able to share my joy. Today I facilitated a discussion group that I earlier had to give up, and it was a success! I could lead and follow the discussion. I have given up so much over the last year and felt depressed. What changed? I need to put up a new . My hearing loss is now severe. I saw an AUD as I shared in an earlier post.; I purchased rechargeable Jabras (about $1,700) from Costco. The AUD refined the Costco fitting with molds ($350). I purchased everything available; the TV streamer ($250 maybe) and the remote mike ($ maybe $300) that some brands call a Rodger. My awesome Costco fitter taught me how to use Apple’s Live Listen and also how to reduce background noise. When it was time for the session I set the app to lower background noise in the rest of the auditorium. I gave the woman who I embarrassingly could never hear, the remote mike. We both could have just cried when she spoke softly and I could hear her clear as crystal. It felt like a Helen Keller moment. The group was so happy that they clapped! The discussion went well, and I am beyond thrilled. I feel like I have my life back again, and they were glad to see me back in place. In addition, at home the TV volume is at about 12. Without my TV streamer I would hear nothing at that level. The TV is no longer blasting. I am glad to have my Jabra backups that are also fitted. I let the charger drain and my rechargeable were not ready to be worn; so I used my back-ups. I hope that my experience encourages some of you. Thanks for listening. I do have a pair of Costco Resounds that are about 4 years old that I could part with.

I am so happy for you! I have had some similar, but not as dramatic, aha moments. We have to cherish them among all the challenges. It is so special that this made such a bit difference - so you can do what you obviously love doing!

I wonder whether you have the Roger microphone or a similar one made by Jabra/Resound? Or are the Jabra hearing aids your back up and you bought Phonak from the AudD? Roger works directly with Phonak, but needs a neckloop to work with other brands.

Jabra has its branded mike. I was likening it to the Roger for reference. I am just coming out of a meeting. I could not hear two ladies situate in the curve of tables if you can imagine an oval setting, I asked them if I could just place the remote mike their table. That worked perfectly.

EDIT:
I did not purchase anything from the AUD.
The Jabra Enhanced rechargeables replaced another pair of Jabras, all from Costco.
The earlier pair of Jabras are my back-ups.
The AUD put molds on both pairs and refined the Costco fitting.

Like so many people, I refused to admit I had hearing loss and muddled through for far too long. For a couple of years (maybe longer) the most repeated phrase I used was ‘Say again, I missed that’. After visiting a NHS audiologist and getting my hearing tested she fitted me with a pair of hearing aids and I immediately realised just how bad my hearing was. Due to gradual hearing loss we don’t really notice it and go on as if nothing had changed. I still can’t understand how I was able to function as well as I did without hearing aids. Now it feels so strange when I take them off and go back to how I used to be. The engineers who create these devices are special people in my opinion.

I agree. Now, the work is to convince family to get tested and get ’s. They do not know what they are missing. Happy for yoy too!

I relate to so many that find our hearing loss came slowly over time tricking us into believing we could hear well enough.
I never realized how much I was missing until I was tested. I have had my Rexon’s fitted at Costco for 3 weeks. WOW. What a difference it has made in my daily life.

Initially it was overwhelming to hear the birds chirp and wind rustle. I never fathomed how much of the little things I missed. Hearing well enough is no longer an option, I love hearing the little things once again.

My research has led me to understand there is a period of adjusting as my brain becomes accustomed to hearing sound previously missed. Through my research I stumbled upon this forum and have enjoyed everyone’s perspective. I found many answers without asking.

I certainly appreciate this forum.

Foxy, we are a grateful and persistent group aren’t we? I am happy that you pushed for a right solution! Hearing the birds while on a walk id an experience for sure! Even hearing the turn signals in the car! LOL!

Heh heh, for a year or two, I kept thinking my ears must be blocked, like, my sinuses or allergies must be causing my ears to clog, because I was only in my late 50s. The idea that my hearing was diminishing, and I wasn’t even in my 60s yet, never enter my head. I would sit there all the time, trying to “pop” my ears (like you do on an airplane when you feel extra pressure in your ears). Of course, that did nothing, since the problem wasn’t a pressure issue, it was a hearing issue. I don’t remember if someone suggested I get my hearing tested, or if a light bulb just went off and I decided on my own to get it checked. Fast forward, I was delighted when the audiologist took me - wearing a test pair of Starkey Muses - for a walk outside his office for a few minutes, on a noisy street, and I was able to have a clear conversation with him without having to look at his lips!

LOL!!! You were popping your ears! I can just imagine that! Wasn’t hearing everyday sounds for the first time in a while similar to getting the first pair of glasses; if you wear glasses?! I am happy fir you and really enjoyed reading your - I can hear now- story.

Well, I was sure my ears were just stuffed, like on an airplane. I was only in my late 50s. Hearing loss never entered my mind. I mean, my mom was 20+ years older and didn’t need hearing aids, nor did my aunts or uncles. So there you go. My hearing loss was relatively mild (but still annoying enough that I definitely needed ), so while it was great hearing those higher frequency sounds again, it was probably not the profound experience that getting glasses was at age 10-11. When I put on those little white cat-eye glasses, and saw how crisp the houses, hills, and streets looked, that’s when I realized that everything had been blurry before! Now that was an epiphany! :nerd_face:

“Costco has been selling ReSound hearing aids in the past, but as of 2021, they replaced ReSound with the Jabra brand. Currently, Costco primarily offers hearing aids from brands like Rexton, Jabra, and Philips.”

You are an excellent writer! I hung onto every word! I do remember being amazed that trees have so many individual leaves!:laughing: It had to throw you off that your mim did not require hearing aids. How did it happen that the family decided to have your ears tested?

I just can’t remember how I finally ended up deciding to get my hearing tested. (Probably an suggested it, but I really don’t remember.) The funny thing is, no family or friends suggested it. I guess I wasn’t asking them to repeat themselves often enough for them to think anything was wrong. Funny thing, though, when I told my mother I’d been diagnosed with a hearing loss and required hearing aids, she did not believe me. I had to show her the and doctor’s notes. But the final proof was when I showed up at her home with my new hearing aids. That’s when she realized that maybe I actually needed those suckers. :slightly_smiling_face: :thinking:

Pick your favorite pronouns, :transgender_symbol: . The fact is Costco did replace the Resound Brand Hearing Aids with Jabra Brand Hearing Aids.

There was No advertised Rebranded of Resound to Jabra, as both brands are sold at same time in different markets.

The fact is the hardware specification sheets match, does not guarantee the same hardware or firmware inside or being manufactured on same production line.

I don’t disagree they appear to be near clones, and Resound came out with Jabra brand name to provide differentiation between Resound sold at high cost model clinics, and Jabra near clone sold at next to Toilet Paper at Costco.

Yes same parent company owns both brands of ’s. Like GM used to have Chevy, Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Cadillac. A lot of interchangeable common parts, but in their hay day all different production lines, similar performance, but styling and performance and price differences.
