I’m new to having and I’m finding the whole experience very challenging. Waiting times with the NHS have been impossible for me - so when I decided to go private I foolishly thought, “ok now I’ll get sorted”.
As it is I am trialling HAs from Specsavers but I have very little trust in the audiologist being invested in getting the best set-up for me. The more I read on this forum the more I doubt she knows what she’s doing.. no . I think perhaps my wires are too long but she hasn’t said anything, I’d have to chase her. She hasn’t measured my ears. Only testing was a tone test. She’s given me different sleeves to try to see what stays in the ear best but told me there’s no need to change the programming with dome changes, which I’m unconvinced by. Feedback apparently I just have to get used to. It feels very sloppy and I feel so unsupported. Having just made the biggest spend in my life on these HAs, I really want to maximise what they can do for me.
I live rurally on the Cornwall-Devon border and feel unclear what other options I have if I ditch Specsavers. I don’t want to . How do I find a good audiologist I can afford and trust? Can I request input from a second more senior audi at Specsavers? I need somebody more proactive. It’s really getting me down - hopes repeatedly dashed as I think I’ve found a fix and then something else isn’t right - and every time an 1h30 round journey and a half-day I’ve had to take off work.
