I have a backup pair of Elehear Beyond Pros and I wouldn’t recommend them for your loss. My own loss is around 60 and I still have plenty of headroom left for a loss of say 70 to 75 DB. I would not trust them for anything 80 or higher.

As mentioned no, so your best bet is to pop into your local Costco and trial some real , best price in town for premium models at that!

I came here because I have been contemplating aids for my husband. He had the Jabra from Costco, lost one pair and they were replaced by insurance. Now he has only one. I’m going to make a last ditch effort to search the car. He always said they didn’t do much for him any.way, so my thought was if he’s going to lose them, let’s at lease lose cheaper ones. I’m gathering that this may not work though? Also, as an aside, I’ve been thinking about using the alligator clip chains they use at the dentist to keep them attached to him. Anybody ever tried that? Or anything else that help prevent loss?

I have a backup pair of elehear beyond pros. They work better than my Phonak Audio Lumity L90-RL hearing aids - in noisy environments.
However, without seeing his I don’t know if they would work for his hearing loss?

Reading this thread and having tried and discarded Apple’s Airpod Pros- are there any at all that work beyond mild hearing loss?

That would be illegal in the US (mild to moderate loss only) per mandate.
OTC Hearing Aids: What You Should Know1
What are over-the-counter hearing aids, who can buy, where to buy, how they work, labeling, and returns.
LInk below, from an Irish provider, says that in Europe, are only for mild to moderate loss. That said, I read somewhere that the EU regulations do not have a distinct “OTC hearing aid” classification. No clue about Switzerland.
Another issue are the domes — how does the manufacturer of the OTC guarantee that there will be no feedback issues with the domes included in the box ? Many users with severe loss, based on what I’ve read here , use molds .
Its possible (and this is an educated guess) that selling a potent over-the-counter hearing aid could be considered hazardous for someone that has mild loss if a malfunction occurs.
The Rise of Over-the-Counter (OTC) Hearing Aids: What You Need to Know - Hear...3
With the recent introduction of over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids across Europe, consumers have more options than ever before when it comes to addressing mild to moderate hearing loss. While this new trend in hearing care promises convenience and...

The real question is whether the hearing aid has enough maximum output/headroom where you need speech audibility without feedback.
For what it’s worth, I do think the Beyond Pro can reach pretty high output—if the proper domes are used (the domes strongly affect seal/occlusion and how much acoustic output you get at the ear), I think it has enough gain available to get to a 75 to 80 loss. The catch is that in the USA they’re not allowed to be sold for anything more than moderate hearing loss, so “will it work?” and “will it be sold/fit for your level?” can be two different things.
Also, I’ve tested options myself:
-
I have a pair of JVC EH‑Z1500 OTC hearing aids, and IMO they can be pushed closer to the moderately severe level with the right domes.
-
The tuned app for the JVCs is excellent—I took two hearing tests in the app: one using tulip domes and one with open domes, then I just switch the hearing test profiles when I change domes.
-
I wear my Lumity L90‑RL hearing aids most of the time. I wear the Beyond Pros when I know I’m going out to a restaurant or noisy place.
-
For hiking/backpacking (when I don’t want to deal with charging), I use JVC aids (with thin tubes) because they use 312 batteries.
That being said, if the Beyond Pros don’t work for your loss of 80 DB, you could always return them.
Regards.
