I’m so glad it worked out for you! my audiologist doesn’t recommend any type of for me though and prefers Naida or hearing aids with hook since my hearing loss is profound. I also struggle alot with speech I find it hard to understand what been said without needing to lip read especially since I work in environment where most employees wear masks…
and they also don’t offer free trial here so considering all of that I just can’t take the risk given the cost.
It’s seems like it’s never ending cycle to fine something to rely on.
Thanks for your reply. I have been evaluated for and qualified. It’s a major lifestyle change. There is no certainty that it will work and the possibility of compete deafness on one side, so I’m procrastinating.
What do you mean? My lifestyle after is roughly the same except charging batteries (I am lazy, so I don't use disposables, which are also possible to use), changing mics filters every few months and listening as much podcast as humanly possible during rehabilitation?
Procrastinating means still struggling in life, when that time would be productively used for rehabilitation and life quality improvement. Most of people who have got CI regrets procrastination.
25% in means you have little to lose compared to the potential bemefits from CI. No one would qualify you if chances would be low.
You can choose the intermediate option of implanting only one ear, although the greatest possible benefit will be the most likely to be with implanting both ears.
You can indeed wait till to announcement of new Advanced Bionics sound processor which should be soon, to make a comparison.
Thanks for the encouragement I will wait a little longer to hear about new processor. I had pretty much made up my mind to go with Cochlear but a new AB processor and Phonak Sphere EON might be a good option.
Based on our experience to date, sound processors will connect directly bimodally (right with left side) only with Naida Link (Infinio? Eon?) Sphere, which isn't announced yet. So, no Audeo series will connect directly wirelessly to the AB sound processor.
Perhaps AB and Phonak will change that "politics", but I am not holding my breath.
Having current I90 Sphere (does it have an Ultra upgrade?) will be the same use case with AB sound processors as I have my I90 Sphere Ultra with my Cochlear sound processor.
The only convenience will be the Roger Direct with Roger microphone, because Roger licence can be installed on both AB sound processor and I90 Sphere.
I did lose most of my residual hearing with CI. It was an eye opener for about a week or two then those thoughts went away. The improvement in hearing with CI is amazing, almost difficult to describe, life changing.
If you have an active life and hearing well is a big part of that life, CI is many levels better hearing over the best aids available for your present hearing. If a person qualifies for CI what that means is they can expect a big improvement of hearing with CI. It's one of those things that most say "I wish I had done this sooner"!
Got my E70s today and can back up the "crisp" sound people are referencing. It's like it's tilted more towards the high frequencies. I'd be hesitant to assume this is something with Eon itself since it's a new fitting and I'm still adjusting. Overall it is a much less drastic change than the last time I upgraded.
This may have been a thing with the rechargeable aids for awhile but I love that you disable streaming from the app to keep it from auto-connecting. It also seems to switch out of streaming much faster when it's paused.
Had my follow up and to my surprise I was actually fitted with . I inquired about this and my audiologist explained that the proprietary formulas are now a lot more similar to the independently derived formulas like /3. She also pointed out that either way the targets were still validated with . It was a little unclear if she meant that REM was the same regardless of the prescriptive formula used or that the REM targets were somehow different from what was set in Target. I didn't have a reason to argue because at the end of the day these sound fine and I trust my audi's judgment, but google supports the reasoning.
The new wind blocking is way better than the old version on my P70s. That would just attenuate like crazy. Cool that the secret sauce is simply reducing the pick up from the direction facing the wind rather than throwing more at the problem.
One thing I've found is that because upper-mid frequencies are boosted and have less compression, certain sounds like the dreaded cracking bag sound quite loud. It was suggested that turning up "SoundRelax" could fix this. I thought that was for sudden sounds like door slams, etc. I think that is on already and feel like I notice it "damps" certain sounds in a way that feels unnatural.
