From the new Eon manual :

Since they say 5.3 does that mean it will receive streams using BT using the codec rather than BT Classic? (with better quality and using less power)

Or perhaps that bit has been left out of their implementation? - and only streams via BT Classic as always.

I guess that the will be LC3 and low power usage though?

I have seen nothing yet that addresses or clarifies this. (I wish BT standards were not so confusing with parts of them being non-mandatory just to make it even more confounding !)

I am first on the list to try the EON Sphere from my Audi - so hopefully that will happen very soon, then I will know!

I don't think so. Phonak already support so many protocols that it might be difficult to add another one and reliably support it. Bluetooth troubleshooting has become a massive part of the work of hearing care professionals. There's a reason that some corporate chains still offer non-bluetooth streaming devices as essential products for low-income buyers: the support costs make them financially unviable at the lowest price point.

Roger isn't technically a walled garden. Roger X is available for any manufacturer offering a europlug adaptor intermediate device. Oticon, the other paediatric brand has this in the edumic. Other manufacturers have moved away from supporting europlug adapters. Not offering audio streaming means lower streaming quality for some high-end android phones, but it doesn't place any figurative walls in the way for streaming altogether.

I think the biggest holdout for LC3 audio is actually Apple. Fingers crossed this changes with iPhone 18 Pro/Ultra.

I can't understand you saying this at all. I see this function as the absolute best thing about Phonak Bluetooth with phone calls. Quality is superb. Much better than talking with my Samsung S21 and now S26 Ultra phones built-in mics. I wouldn't have it any other way.
