Phillips 9060’s

hmmm....I'm going tomorrow to pickup my 9050's for a trial.

Ugh, you can never get away from the fact that there is always something better/newer/nicer out there or just around the corner. Why are we so good at letting the try for perfection get in the way of good enough?

I really wanted to just skip it and go trial the Oticon Reveal, but the price delta was too big to not give the Costco offering a chance first. So are you saying the 9060 will likely be in the reveal line?

again the problem of finding perfection.... Even if the 9060 is the Reveal, one huge variable that was compelling me to go to the audiologist was the improved support that I'd probably get.... ugh.

Hopefully this new one will come out well before my 6 months is up. I know Costco won't like it but if a newer model comes out I'll have to return these 9050's if I can and swap

As @tenkan said, it will similar to a Bernafon, specifically the Bernafon Revita (which is not available in the US yet).

Same situation as 9050 <=> Bernafon Encanta (cousin but not twin of the Oticon Intent)

Oticon, Bernafon and Phillips are made by the same manufacturer (Demant): Same family.

Based on everything I have read, these three brands have the same hardware for the same generation.

Bernafon and Phillips: Twins (Same hardware, same OS/Software)

Oticon and Bernafon/Phillips: Cousins (Same hardware, different OS/Software).

Makes sense?

I deff will hold off on buying the new Reveals just to try these first. I really like my 9050's I also have the Phonak Inferno I90 Spheres Ultra but prefer the sound tone and size of the Phillips. These 9060's have me curious.

They do have different OS and software, that's a fact (not my opinion).

Some examples:
1.- They use different fitting software (Oticon Genie vs Bernafon's OasisNXT) (not just different UI or branding). The fitting software of the Phillips and Bernafon is pretty much the same (the branding is different).
2.- They have different propietary fitting formulas (VAC+ vs Bernafon's formula).
3.- Their approach to sound is different (Oticon's brain hearing/open sound paradigm) vs Bernafon's more direct approach to speech enhancement and noise reduction.
4.- There was a recent discussion here about the advantanges of Bernafon's channel free . Oticon does not use a channel free approach.

5.- Bernafon used to be a different company that was acquired by Demant.

So no, it;'s not a situation like the Intent 1 vs Intent 4, where the manufacturer turns off features depending on the price level.

Other manufacturers also do this. For example Sonova makes Phonaks and Unitrons: Phonak has AutoSense OS vs Unitron's IntegraOS.

WS/Aud has Widex and Signia : Same manufacturer but different hw/sw, not like the GM examples you mentioned.

This has been discussed multiple times in this forum. One example below.

An interesting early description of the Bernafon Revita, on which the Philips 9060 is expected to be based, from India can be found here: https://fairfieldhearing.in/blogs/types-technology/bernafon-revita-ai-hearing-aid-explained35

or Sennheiser's "Intelligent Scene Detector", or whatever it is that they call it. From what I can tell through research and through wearing the thing for several weeks, it exactly = Autosense. Some of the scenes seem to have been deleted, but otherwise it seems to be pretty much the classic situation of "The names have been changed to protect the innocent"

Regardless, what you say all may be so .... and it probably is. I'll accept that.

but

it could also be that in the end, ignoring what things are called or what the user interface looks like on the fitting software, etc... that for a given sound in the sound amplifed out of the receiver is the same.

So maybe in the end it might come down to is the reveal worth $2200 more?

Only testing by yourself will show it. That is truism, I know.

However, I would recommend at least power domes for left ear or even earmold with maximum pressure vent (0.5-0.8mm diameter) or no vent at all.

What WRS do you have in each ear separately and binaurally?

And I wonder why do you have high air-bone gap in left ear?

I wish I had that answer. All pressure tests show that I have a hole in my left drum but via the scope they see it. Also, I have terrible left ear pain, and it continues to be brushed off. My right does not have a drum at all, and I do wear a mold.

Well, its the same situation of the Phillips 9050 vs the Intent. If you do a search here, you will find many different opinions and debates. As bimodal_user said, try them.

I wouldn't pay $2000+ more for the Oticon version unless I had some sort of insurance coverage (but that's me and my non-complex hearing loss).

Recommendation: Don't make the decision based solely on marketing info or other peoples recommendations.

Last time I checked, Oticon lets you use, say, NAL-NL2 or VAC+ for the general program and DSL v5 for music. With Philips, however, users are restricted to using the same fitting formula across all four available programs. So there you have it... the hardware may be the same (I don't know), but there are some important differences between their OS. With Oticon, you can assign a different fitting formula to each of the four program slots and compare them on the fly, which isn't possible with Philips...
