Thanks for this info. If, when it changed, it improved the sound or helped comprehension I would probably like it, but at this time, it makes sounds worse, not better.

Maybe Jabras, like ReSound Quattros, have a selection of less advanced directionality modes, in case the fitter can’t disable just Ultra Focus in the default mode.

All Around, Restaurant, Outdoor, Music, and Ultra Focus are discreet programs. The aids will not change from one to another on their own.

Right, automatic switching between discrete programs seems to be mainly a Phonak (Sonova) thing. But I recall reading here that the All Around program on Jabras and Ones can employ a directionality mode akin to the Ultra Focus program.

As I’ve mentioned before in other threads, there are several directionality modes and a default for each program.
All Around defaults to All Access directionality.
Restaurant defaults to Autoscope.
Music defaults to Omni.
I forget the others. And if yo have M& receivers you can select to have M&RIE directionality, but it’s not a default for any of the programs.
My All Around program has All Access directionality, and it still periodically acts like Ultra Focus in particular situations.

This info will help me so much when I visit my audi this Friday.
The changes in sound when this happens never seems to add any hearing or comprehension improvements.
Could this be an indication that my aids are not programmed correctly or need tweaking? Or maybe this technology just isn’t for me…

All Around has historically altered the microphone directionality, and done nothing with volume.
Don’t know about the ReSound Ones or the Jabras but in All-Around, but for Quattros, the relative volume of the ’s is adjusted according to the sound loudness and relative amount of noise vs. speech in the listening environment. I’ve posted this before but can’t find the post to link to but here are the default settings from the Enivonmental Optimizer II tab in the Smart Fit fitting software. Also, I do believe that the default setting in the Smart 3D app for noise reductions is “AUTOMATIC” - so the amount of noise reduction applied will vary according to what the HA processors think is going on in the environment. So, in summary, HA volume, directionality, and noise reduction can all automatically change when using the All-Around program, at least in my experience with the ReSound Quattros.
The scales for right and left HA’s show changes to the relative HA amplification volume according to the type of environment. The “0” point is presumably the prescribed fit in whatever ReSound thinks the average everyday listening environment is (“Speech in noise (loud)” ???!!). (Click the diagonal arrows at the lower right of the image to see the full-size image). There is a built-in time delay to volume transitions: ReSound for each unit difference in prescribed volume, there is a added one second delay in transition time, e.g., 5 seconds to go from +2 volume for “Quiet” to -3 volume for “Loud noise,” presumably to minimize rapid oscillations in volume in rapidly changing environments. Presumably, a brief 1-second loud noise in an otherwise quiet environment would not induce a big change in relative volume.

My audi called to confirm my Friday appointment and she said there are a few automatic adjustments going on with my Jabra’s and that she can adjust and turn them off.
The delay seems in line with what I am experiencing.
I like talk radio and that’s where I notice it most. What seems odd is that the changes happen while the person is talking, with seemingly no reason to change. It’s still the same person talking, same level, I’m not turning my head. Then, whatever it changes to, is not helping at all and usually either to it sounds to muted or to bright, until it settles back to normal

Whitepapers at the link above explain the directionality settings better than I can.

At this point, after 10 days with no adjustments since initial fitting, I don’t like these aids.
First, they don’t help word comprehension of female voices. Maybe nothing will, but I cant rely these as is.
Second, background noise is bothersome. Watching TV in my room while my grandkids are playing in the living room and I hear the kids better than my TV. If I adjust settings to muffle the kids, i can’t hear the TV. Just one example, restaurants being another place where they fail.
3rd, the sound that changes at will is irritating. Happens specially when listening to the radio or in my car where road noise is suppressed, then no suppression, then back every few minutes.
4th, while the app has mostly worked well, streaming to both aids is unreliable, hit or miss. In the same call it will just drop the right aid.
If these short comings can’t be overcome, I will have to return them. No use in keeping them for the full 6 months at that point.
Bummed…
Can anyone advise why the Costco I go to will not fit me for KS10’s? Tnx

As to the jabra - it’s a shame they aren’t working for you. I will say that there are many areas I wish it worked better for me and I also think my expectations are too high for aids in general. I’ve only had them a few months…
As to the ks10 - I don’t know the range for them so not sure but I could see that as an issue?? However I would expect they would have higher power receivers so should be able to work with your loss.

I am having the same problems ,my Costco guy said that with my hearing lost the K10’s is not a good choice for me! go figure!

According to phonaks website the range for the UP p90 is about 100 or 105 (I can’t tell for certain on their page) so that may be the reason they don’t recommend it perhaps?

I know that the Phonak has 100 and 105 power receivers not sure about the KS10.
I also wonder if I am expecting to much from aids. Although I had none of these issues with my previous aids. And I guess many of the settings can be turned off to possibly rectify the issues I am having, but then I feel like I am paying for all this technology and wouldn’t be able to take full advantage of it.
I could also just have a poor .
I had an appointment last Friday but my work had an emergency and I had to cancel, but have one in 10 days so hoping for some major adjustments and improvements. Tnx

Good luck! I know it can be frustrating. My loss isn’t near what yours is and I’m not thrilled with my outcomes. I know it’s not going to be perfect but oh well…
