Upcoming Costco Appointment - Rexton Reach VS Philips 9050, Advice?

Thanks for the info. I probably will go with the Philips 9050 because of what has been said about the sound quality. I’ve just been spoiled with the hearing aids I have that make it so easy to switch from one device to another. I use my tablet much of the time as a little portable TV because I can get our Google TV using it. I think I’ll just get a better set of Bluetooth earphones. My understanding is that if I used the Bluetooth on my phone for calls I would have to turn it off when using another device or if I would use it on another device and got a phone call by the time I turned off and on devices I would lose the call. I guess You can’t have everything. What led me also to the Philips if the battery life.

Sue, just so you know, the Pixel 6 only supports , which is the android low energy bluetooth used by most makers. Sonova (maker of your KS10), is the only mfg which uses Classic.
So you won’t get hands-free phone calling, or connection to your pc or tablet without the Philip AudioClip accessory.
You will be able to stream audio from your Pixel to the 9050’s, and hear phone callers, but you’ll have to use the phone’s speaker for them to hear you.

I also chose the Reach over the 9040 after trialing both. I wrote a review of the Reach earlier today. I decided to pass on the 9050 since I was very pleased with the Reach.

No experience with Rexton (yet), but I have had a few problems with the Philipps 9050. Shuts down too often and requires wax trap replacement multiple times every week. More recently, it turned down the amplification level all the way down by itself - and I don’t mean reducing amplification on your app by the user! I mean the instrument itself malfunctioned and is not able to hold its programming. I would love to hear the experience of others with the 9050..

I haven’t used the 9050 but Oticons (they are cousins).
Wax issue: there’s nothing particularly different between the ProWax (used by your Philips brand) and Cerustops (used by other Costco brands). However, if you have a lot of wax, you’ll need to replace the frequently (this means the guards are working as intended ) . But , several times a week ? Are you noticing them clogged, or is it that you find they work better when you change them?

The malfunctions you describe should not be happening. You may feel the difference when the aids switch programs but it should not be as drastic as you describe . Try turning the Bluetooth off and see if the issue continues to happen (this can help isolate the cause of the problem ). Have they been exposed to water?

I would schedule an appointment with the Costco . Most likely you will have to make a choice of repairing them vs returning them. But , in general , people in this forum report they are excellent aids.

If you have severe wax issues , try the Sennheiser with the new EasyGuard domes, they are designed for dealing with lots of wax abd don’t need to be replaced as often .

Bottom line : find out , with the help of the HIS , the root cause . The last thing you want is to get other brand and continue to have the same problem.

Thanks for the feedback. It may just be an unfortunate outlier bad unit. I have dropped it off for repair. I will update if the problem is resolved!

My ears don’t generate a lot of wax. So I don’t have your issue. I don’t have the the other issue either.

The only issue that I current experience somewhat frequently is that the app sometimes gives me a blank screen when I use it. These requires a reboot of my Pixel 10 phone to get it fixed.
