I would say it depends on what phone and laptop you are currently using and if you plan to upgrade these devices.
If you use Apple products or old Android phones and want hands free calling, then the Sennheisers will probably work better with Apple devices and old Android phones.
If you use a Samsung S23 or S24, then I don’t think it’s going to matter if you like the Rexton hearing aids. Those phones will give you hands free calling and the S24 will give you , maybe the S23 will too.
Interesting that one one Costco in NJ (Route 22 in Watchung) was not selected to sell the Sennheisers but another Costco also on Route 22, 5 miles up the road does sell the Sennheisers.
Stopped at Costco in California today and asked about Sennheiser. Person was very much aware. Said that they are on a trial for 6 months at the selected stores. IF things go well, they will agree to sell the NEW model at all stores. Whether that means Infinio or Infinio Sphere is anybody’s guess, but we should hopefully know more around May. This is basically rumor but the source seemed credible.
I was told by the local Costco hearing aid tech that certain Costcos were chosen to sell the Sennheiser. She said they only sell three brands and Costco chose to not sell Rexton at that particular store. The Costco on the others side of town still sells the Reach. I am very happy with the Reach and wrote a review today about it. I have only a few days left before the 6 month trial period ends. I tried the 9040s and was not impressed even though I’ve always worn Oticon. After trialing Reach I decided I liked them so much that I wasn’t going to return them and trial the Philips 9050. I’m reluctant to take something back that I like in order to trial a hearing aid that hasn’t much written about it, at least as far as I know. Any thoughts?
According to Brian, producer of the YouTube channel, “Hearing Club”, who is a hearing aid specialist currently working at a Costco in Pennsylvania, the employees get no advanced information about new products.
This is what I’ve generally heard but recently when I asked about the Sonite a credible sounding staff member said it was on 6 month trial. If it was successful, then they would be getting a newer Sonova hearing aid. So hopefully in May we’ll know more.
Rexton Reach to be sold until Nov. 24 to accommodate members who already had an appointment scheduled.
My 1st appointment at my local Costco’s HAC, with the head of the department, was Nov. 18, which turned out to be the day before the Philips 9050 was offered at regular price but with free TV adapter included in the deal. Not knowing about the Philips deal, I purchased the Rexton Reach at the end of that 1st appointment. I was fitted on Dec. 5 and had an adjustment appointment on Dec. 19. I’m not pleased with how it’s gone. The fitter (same guy) decided not to test my hearing. He fitted me off the printed report I’d given them which was handed me by the audiologist-in-training at my HMO. My music program sounds terrible (even after tweaking at my adjustment appt). It sounds better now, but still awful. The Automatic program is the best but I think it’s excessively boosted in the high treble. At my Dec. 19 adjustment I had the guy (again, the head of the HAC) tone down the highs a bit in creating a 2nd Automatic program, which is the one I’m using, for everyday, music, whatever. I think it may still be too strong in the highs. I called and scheduled an adjustment this coming week with a different fitter and requested that they test my hearing.
If they are discontinuing the Rexton Reach I think maybe I should return them and go for either the Philips 9050 or the Sennheiser after the hearing test.
It seemed to me that the guy I was dealing with was playing his cards close to the vest. I had no idea that the Reaches were going to be discontinued or that Sennheiser would be offered going forward. Or that the Philips sale was starting the next day. I suppose it’s Costco policy not to reveal that kind of thing.
Question: Does the 6 month return policy go from the day of purchase or the day of fitting (in my case 2 weeks apart)?
I think these are your first hearing aids? (other than Etymotic earbuds) I wouldn’t be too eager to turn down the highs. You haven’t been hearing them for sometime. It takes awhile to adjust. Regarding which aid you choose? Your call but any of them can improve your hearing.
Yes, these are my first . Yep, I figure that I should be patient in dealing with these and that the sense of the highs being excessive may be temporary or at least not as much as I get more used to them. It’s a sometimes thing. It depends some on what’s going on. But I think I may be right that the fitting or the may have been off. I did have a sense that I was being accommodated pretty abruptly by this Costco guy. No hearing test, only tried one set of domes before deciding on a 2nd set, only put on the Reaches, no others. He recommended the Philips to start, saying the music program was the best and asked about the Reaches he said their app was better and that he could tweak the Reach music program to be as good as the Philips, so I bought the Reaches. I wonder if the Sennheiser’s would be a better idea now.
It sounds like the biggest issue is bedside manner. Competent people can make decisions quickly but it may give the appearance that they’re not doing a good job. I think you’d be better off to decide if you’ve found the right person to fit your hearing aids rather than searching for the perfect hearing aid.
I don’t disagree. The guy I’ll be seeing in 4 days I’ve talked to before, we had a same day appointment later in the day after I called for help with streaming. He will test me and I hope I’ll have better fitting experience with him. The guy I was dealing with was not what I’d call personable. Plus, I had to hound him to retweak the 2nd Automatic program I requested (more than once) until it was something like what I wanted.
The Rextons are helping with my hearing tremendously!
When I was there a week after my Dec. 19 adjustment I didn’t notice anything indicating that they had dropped the Rextons or were adding the Sennheisers. Of course, I wasn’t aware of all this at the time but was hanging out at the front of the HAC for 10 minutes while some changes were being made to my (the retention straps were weird).
Whether all Costco hearing aid centers will get the Sennheisers is still up in the air–not to be decided until somewhere around May (from rumors I’ve heard) I have no idea if Rexton’s fate is dependent on that or not. My local Costco continues to carry Rextons (but not Sennheisers)
You should have paperwork that specifies the end of the 180 day return period. Although they give you that paperwork when you purchase, I believe the date is based on the date they you have you scheduled to come in for your fitting appointment.
I’ll likely be in no hurry to return the Rexton Reach . I hope my new fitter/hearing-tester furnishes improved programs, especially the Music, but the current 2nd Automatic program I have (with slightly but noticeably diminished high treble) is usable for music from my stereos and for general inside/outside use ATM. I do wonder if Rextons are pulled from Costcos (in particular the one 5.5 miles from me) how well they’ll service them going forward. Probably not a great concern. This thread is deep and sensational, the level of involvement and expertise of the participants is very impressive to me, a HA newbie (1 month since being fitted with 1st HAs)!
