The Pain of the TV Converter

Since I got it all working, Phonak I90 Sphere and TV Converter 2, I haven’t really needed it. I only use it on TV shows that have drastically varying volumes. Unfortunately it doesn’t care. If the TV is on, and I walk in the room, I WILL have the TVC’s audio slamming into my head! :astonished:
I actually recall this happening with the P90s, and it required a settings change by the audi. Sadly, four years later, I don’t see anything in the app that would allow ME to make that change. Have you found that to be correct?

Turn off the TVC when not in use. Press and hold the touch power button on the top and it goes off when on and the reverse.

I guess pick your poison.

  1. pull/insert the power or audio - insertions can be unnecessary wear. The power needs to be the right orientation which requires vision, unlike usb-c.
  2. press buttons on the aids to connect. Can be unnecessary wear on those buttons.
  3. use the touch power button on the TVC.

I vote 3 (unless it’s a V1 TVC that has no buttons).

I have a TV Connector as well and some shows are very loud. You can fix the issue two ways, 1) use the Myphonak app to decrease the volume or go to your TV settings. I use a digital audio optical cable from the TV to the TV connector. In TV settings, select optical audio out and analog audio out as variable or fixed. Select the variable if you are using the remote to control the volume.

The problem here is autosense. As soon as it picks up noise from that converter it switches programs. Same thing happens with the phone. It’s the whole funky weird Phonak architecture which has seperate programs for streaming, rather than having a bunch of streaming settings on top of your existing programs. You don’t have enough control over autosense as a user or the programs it selects. In the end, switching it off is the best option sadly.

I think the problem is people not understanding that there are different ways the interaction between device and hearing aids is setup. I get it. People just want things to work but if one wants an optimal experience one needs to learn about one’s devices.

No direct experience but as discussed in another thread there’s a setting in Target (not the phone app) to disable auto switching to the tv steamer. Then you have to manually switch using the app or buttons. Users explained there’s a manual option and a manual plus beep option where you’ll hear a beep when in range of the steamer and then you have a set time to press a button on the aids to switch. Possibly one of the two manual configurations will work better for you.

If the new Phonaks are similar to the past generations the tv connector can be set up three ways. Yours appear to be set up in auto to come on whenever the TV is on. The can also be set up in manual. This will give you a tone when the tv signal is available. You can then ignore it or select it with the aids button or with the phone app

I always liked the manual setting.

Phonak streamer is really good. For me it’s automatic but I’d rather manual. Where is the manual setting you’re referring to; how do I set that up? Down side to TV streamer is how fast it “eats” up the battery so I sometimes use a different program to save battery time. Also, when/if I choose a different setting in my K10 app rather than streamer, if I get a text or phone call, etc., it automatically switches to the streamer so I have to then manually switch back to the program I wanted. Is there a way to stop that? Thanks for your help.

The tv connector settings were in Phonak’s Target software. I am guessing they still are. I did programming with Phonak before .

The tv streamer is low energy Bluetooth, not the Bluetooth you use to stream from your phone as an example. That’s the versatile Bluetooth classic we all talk about. So I can’t imagine the tv streamer eats up your batteries but I could be wrong.

I have a little power remote controller, that I use to turn the TV Converter on/off.

All I know is that when I use the TV Streamer, my hearing aid batteries go down so fast I can almost watch the numbers to down. It also seems to reduce my Iphone battery too. I have K10s. Have not attempted the Target software yet so don’t know about that. When I saw how my battery was depleting so quickly, I had the aids returned for repair, twice. Now I simply don’t use the streamer very often. I purchased headphones & just use them.

For me i use my Unitron app on my IPad. When I use my tv connector, a new setting appears (a picture of the tv connector) and I can control the sound volume. And I can also change the setting ( tv connector to automatic programming) like this the sound of the tv connector is turning off. Have a good day. For the question the tv connector for Unitron is the same of Phonax.

after reading, I downloaded the app. I have K10 hearing aids (Phonak Costco). It wants to pair to my hearing aids. Is that the right way to go? Or do I have the wrong app?
